I can't think of a better song than this to describe the way I'm feeling at the end of this week. It has by and far been the longest and most rigorous of my academic career. This week is the last of my second quarter at Medill- that also means I'm halfway to graduation. All in all, it has been successful, but the work isn't over yet.
I particularly love about this song from "The White Album" because it speaks not only to physical, but also to mental exhaustion. Lennon's lyrics go through the motions of a man with a racing brain: he gets up for a drink, for a cigarette and finally says: "I"ll give you everything I've got for a little peace of mind."
After waking up yesterday morning to report a story I'd already reported three times over in my dreams the night before- I will give you everything I've got for a little peace of mind.
Next week I'll have just started spring break and to slow my racing brain. I'm imagining next week's song will be something triumphant.
