Possums don't resist arrest

It's been a long, crazy day, umm week, umm, month, umm couple of years.  Not necessarily all bad, but sometimes challenging.  Or, as I like to say, "character-building."  When I finally get past this particular patch then I'll have enough character for me AND for you.  To be honest, a lot of what I'm experiencing is actually very good.  I'm living a strangely full and vibrant life despite the tough stuff.  Nonetheless it can be exhausting.

I usually blog on Monday or Tuesday nights.  Last night I was running on fumes so I pushed it to tonight.  When I finally made it home a little while ago, by that time I was running on vapors.  So I had even less gumption to sit down at my keyboard.  Just when I convinced myself that the world wouldn't tip off of its axis if I just waited until tomorrow, I got a jolt from an unexpected source.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, a nice burst of police activity out in the dark recesses of my back yard which is normally only the scene of the aimless ramblings of nocturnal wildlife.  When I heard an unfamiliar male voice just outside my window shouting, "Get down, mother******! Get DOWN!" I assumed he was not talking to the possums.  Because they are usually more cooperative.  Possums play dead.

After they caught the guy and got him in the car, about a dozen Chicago Police officers meandered between mine and my neighbor's yards looking for whatever he tossed.  I'm not a betting girl but I venture it was not a fistful of lollipops.  I couldn't confirm, though, from looking through the eyeball-sized crack I made with my door.  A flurry of flashlight beams crisscrossed the hostas and day lilies at erratic angles.  Like a bootleg Hollywood opening night.

As soon as my heart stopped racing, wouldn't ya' know it?, I found I had PLENTY of energy to blog tonight.  You just never really know what you have in you until some dramatic criminal activity lands on your door step.  Just thought you might like to know about all that.  So if you were looking for a blog post, there you go (smile).
