Recently I had a five hour drive to pick up and drive home my daughter from a fun Indiana weekend with her grandparents. The entire drive there and back I listened to the How I Built This with Guy Raz podcast on NPR.
This easy to listen to podcast is about entrepreneurs and how they built their successful ideas. Despite the common thread of a little bit of luck and a lot of work in almost every story, it really motivates me to be innovative and smart about business choices.
Raz asks the difficult questions and unveils early secrets and failures of company's including Rent the Runway and Aden & Anais, two of my favorite episodes. The first episode is Sara Blakely of Spanx and details Blakely taking Neiman Marcus buyer into the bathroom to show her a literal before and after (it worked!) Other interviews I loved are Jonah Peretti of BuzzFeed, Melissa and Doug and Instacart.
Even the most obscure like, 1-800-GOT-JUNK, is completely fascinating and interesting to hear how these regular people made decisions that made them millionaires.
