It has been a long summer and lots of happy memories were made. I'm somewhat surprised; as I've always been a summer girl, but I am thrilled the new season is here.
Here are five reasons to love autumn.
1. Apples. Hopefully we will get a chance to go apple picking soon, but in the meantime I am buying the freshest and juiciest apples from the market. Apples are packed with antioxidants and said to whiten teeth, reduce cholesterol and prevent gallstones. Here are fifteen health benefits of eating an apple. Plus, there are many awesome apple recipes.
2. Colorful Trees. Most of the trees in Chicago are still green, but I am noticing more crunchy leaves beneath my feet during our morning walk to school. I am in awe of the beauty in the many colors of the leaves and anticipate a trip outside the city to admire them in the next few weeks.
4. Schedules. School has been back for a few weeks now and my kids seem happy and successful in their new classrooms and activities. My boy is now learning to play the saxophone and my girl currently loves gymnastics (she does cartwheels for hours at a time). My yoga schedule is consistent and I'm relieved to worry less about arranging childcare.
5. Halloween. I've always enjoyed carving pumpkins, decorating our house and putting together costumes for my children to have a fun day. This year they are saying that want to be Dr. Who and a mermaid, but it could change by the end of October.
