Yoga at Historic Wrigley Field

Yoga at Historic Wrigley Field

I've spent many days at Wrigley Field, beginning when I was a young child.  My grandparents, loyal Cubs fans, lived on Cornelia and we often incorporated a visit with a walk to a Cubs Game.

I've entertained work clients, watched playoff games and also listened to some of my favorite musicians including Elton John, Paul McCartney and Sting inside the historic stadium in the middle of our city.

Never have I seen Wrigley Field as peaceful as I did Sunday morning, as a thousand yogis quietly filed inside the empty stadium and lined up their mats along the infield.

Lululemon sponsored this complimentary event to celebrate their new Southport store.  Local ambassadors Sharon Wentz, Laurdes Paredes and Wade Gotwalls led the multi level hour and a half class.  The serene music echoed through the sound system and the instructors inspired us in a challenging practice that included a fun forward fold wave and a catcher's squat.

The sun was beating down of us, yet we felt the lakefront breeze as my bare feet touched the pristine grass where many great players once stood.

Looking out at the empty bleachers during Warrior Two, or gazing at Harry Carey's Announcer Box during Tadasana, made for a history making morning.

  • How long, o lord, how long? The losing I can take, but is it just me or is this new ownership "family" specifically trying to alienate its alread long-suffering fan-base. Or maybe I am just not the typical cubs fan anymore. I do not practice yoga, preach gay rights, listen to brad paisley??, or ask rahm for money while stabbing obama in the back. I have no qualms with any of these issues, just leave them out of MY BASEBALL team. Maybe that's the point, maybe this is no longer my team. Res ipsa loquitur

  • Restorative Yoga is a profoundly healing system of Yoga designed to relax, restore & renew physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Debora's classes consist of passive poses performed mainly on the floor and are NOT athletic in nature. Using props to assist the body during these long-held poses allows the muscles and organs to completely relax and release, letting go of chronic tension and "holding" patterns.

  • The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word "yug", or Union. Yogic philosophy reminds us that the ultimate purpose of the practice of yoga is to assist an individual in achieving a state of union or wholeness, a connection of the physical and mental individual "self" (jiva) with the Absolute or pure consciosuness (Brahman), God or Universe.
