I've always been a water drinker. Soda has never really been my thing; wine is enough of a guilty liquid for me. Then I discovered coconut water and fell head over heels in love with its taste and health benefits.
Years ago, I remember trying my sister-in-laws and turning my nose at the taste. I see it sold at the yoga studios and never understood why someone would pay $4 for water, when water is offered for free at the studio. I understand now.
The reason I gave it another try is somewhat funny. I've watched Survivor since the first season; it is one of the originals of reality TV. I've heard enough interviews to know the conditions are very real out there. The survivors find coconuts in the jungle, crack them open to provide hydration, energy and nourishment. It seems to make such a difference in the contestants' performances.
One day at the grocery I grabbed a Vita Coco to sip on while I shopped. Soon I found that every time I went to the store I was drinking a bottle. I began stocking up on two or three at a time. Now I cannot get enough coconut water. I seem to be on a coconut kick since my favorite kale chips are made with coconut oil.
I drink at least one a box a day and notice the natural energy it gives me; for sure more than coffee. After yoga it is a light, sweet and hydrating treat and this week I started using Vita Coco in my green smoothies. Did you know Vita Coco contains more potassium than two bananas and more electrolytes than sports drinks? It has no fat, or cholesterol and it should be obvious why I am obsessed with this all natural drink.
I asked my twitter friends their thoughts on coconut water.
@ilovesweat.com "I only drink water & kombucha, but coconut water is a nice treat!"
@tellinatellina "I don't like the taste but I put it in my morning smoothie."
@meganboley "I like Vita Coco that has other fruit flavors so it not's so bland."
@ElysianChiSpa "Delicious, nourishing, antioxidants."
Vita Coco sent me a variety of samples to enjoy. I prefer the Pure Coconut Water, but Vita Coco also provided Coconut Water with Pineapple, Passion Fruit, Acai & Pomegranate and Peach & Mango. The Coconut Water with Pineapple is very refreshing and reminds me of a Pina Colada; would be nice to drink on a sunny beach.
