The Original Apple. Before the iPad there was Applesauce

The Original Apple. Before the iPad there was Applesauce

I know most of today's Apple news is about the death of Steve Jobs.  He truly had an amazing mind and took technology to a whole new level.  Imagine what he could of done if he had more years to live?  Sadly another life cut too short to cancer.

In other apple news, we are in prime apple season and after the trip to the orchard last weekend, I've got pounds of apples to use.  Steph at Problem Solving Mom shared an easy Crock Pot Applesauce recipe with me.  I didn't have all the ingredients she used, so I altered it slightly.

Crock Pot Applesauce

4 apples peeled and cored

1 cinnamon stick

1 T sugar

1 tsp. lemon juice

1 tsp. vanilla

I left the crock pot on low for the morning and my house began to smell like an Autumn Wonderland.  It is better than any air freshener that can be bought at the store.

The result was a rich, warm compote like dessert.  Unfortunately, my kids wouldn't eat it and said it looked gross.  They were very wrong, I enjoyed spoonful after spoonful.  It can be served as a dessert, side dish or snack.  I know I can turn my kids around, once they have a bite they will not be able to turn back.

  • I love baked apple oatmeal (oatmeal in the oven turns into a fiber-rich breakfast that almost has the texture of custard) and dutch apple pancakes. My 7-month-old isn't quite old enough to eat either, but she loves applesauce and eats it even when its loaded up with cinnamon! Great recipe.
