April Fools
It is officially April. Today welcomes 30 days of attempted sunshine and green sprouts emerging from the ground. It is a month of shedding the extra weight and layers from the long, gloomy winter. Today is also April Fools Day, a long-standing tradition in my family. A favorite memory of mine is when my mom put sugar in the salt shaker and served me scrambled eggs allowing... Read more »
Inspiration
This weekend I discovered a new website Pinterest. I spent hours with my jaw on the floor viewing gorgeous photos and concepts. I honestly do not understand how the sight works, but I love that I can be inspired by others’ photographs. Here is a glimpse of what I found.
Fast and Easy Meatless Monday: Spinach Calzone
I enjoy intricate recipes that include many steps and hours to create a culinary masterpiece. Some days, especially Mondays, seem to be chaotic and there is no time for that. Luckily I found this recipe that I was attracted to as I have had many quick calzones at Pockets. My goal was to replicate the cheesy deliciousness in... Read more »

Me and My Shadow
A few days ago I read a thought provoking blog by a brave, new mom. She included the lyrics of a heartfelt Ani Difranco song and opined how she does not want her infant daughter to grow up with the same insecurities that she has. I’ve been noticing recently how it is common for family members to tell... Read more »
Meatless Monday: Mushroom-Manchego Quesadillas
My husband and my perfect dinner is a cut up apple, warm bread and three cheeses from Pastoral. We always choose a soft, hard and blue. The hard one is Manchego every single time. I try to branch out and try others, but always go back to the sharp, strong taste of the Manchego cheese. Although it is... Read more »
Random Thoughts on Single Parenting
I hesitate to write that I am currently a single parent. Not sure if that is offensive or fair, as my kids do have a loving father. He just happens to be watching basketball in Las Vegas the past 5 days. 1. I have so much respect for every single parent out there. To juggle schedules, work,... Read more »

I Don't Want to Rush Through Life
The Supermoon in Puerto Rico 3.19.11 This morning I was flowing through my yoga practice and noticed that I do not hold each pose very long. Not because it is harder the longer the pose is held, but because I feel like I’m in a rush. As in life, in yoga I am impatient. I’m always thinking of my next... Read more »
Blogger Day of Silence for Japan
My small everyday problems seem so trivial when I begin to read of the devastation currently happening in Japan. My sister lived in Japan for a year and I heard stories of amazing people she formed real relationships with, who are affected by this tragedy. It is hard to find the right words. Two generous, thoughtful bloggers have created a... Read more »
Dancing in Roscoe Village
Dancing is my go to trick when I’m having a bad day. Turning on music and moving always gets my entire family smiling. The moms in my neighborhood have been talking for months about Roscoe Village’s newest addition, Baby Take a Bow. The intimate studio offers ballet and other dance classes for little ones. They also sell the... Read more »

Handstands On and Off the Mat
For all the years I’ve been practicing yoga, I always said, “I don’t do handstands.” In retrospect, I realize I was being a coward and scared to try this difficult pose. I was worried of failing and falling. In the past I’ve stated, “I don’t ride elevators or go on airplanes.” Again, I was afraid. Ironically,... Read more »
