Not Just a Beauty Contest - Chicago's Unique Event

Last weekend, Ukrainians from all over North America, and others, eager to be inspired by Ukrainian beauty, gathered  in Chicago to find out who would be crowned Miss Ukrainian Diaspora 2012. The Pageant took place at the Copernicus Center in Jefferson Park.

The event was organized by Chicago based media organization, VIDIA, with sponsorship from numerous area business and supported by Chicago Sister Cities International.

The 2012 Miss Ukrainian Diaspora pageant and concert went off without a hitch, as the enthusiastic crowd greeted 19 beautiful contestants from across America all competing for the crown, as well as special musical guest, The Golden Voice of Ukraine and one of Ukraine's top singers, Oleksandr Ponomaryov, for an evening that was met with rave reviews.

The winner of this year's competition, San Diego resident, Vlaeria Losiuk, was chosen by a 16 member panel of judges, including NBC Chicago's Natalie Martinez, Miss Chicago 2012, Marisa Buchheit, Miss Illinois 2012, Nancy To, and Miss Illinois USA 1996, Bernadette Przybycien.

This was the first year that fans were able to vote online for the additional category of viewer's choice among all the contestants.
