On the 5th Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me: Hot Cider for a Crowd

On the 5th Day of Christmas My True Love Gave to Me: Hot Cider for a Crowd

In the age of Keurig, the one cup coffee maker, do you still have your big party coffee maker?  The one with the spigot that makes 42 cups.  Make this cider to serve and make your house smell of all things holiday.  I know this is a running theme that I only make things that make the smell of your house rock your socks; it is a bonus.

This is not really a recipe, just general instructions.  Use more or less.  You can't really wreck it.

  • In the base of your ginormous coffee maker, pour as much apple juice as it will hold, just up to the strainer.  It might be just shy of a gallon.

In the top of the percolator strainer, put:

  • 1 TBL whole cloves,
  • 3-4 whole sticks of cinnamon
  • 1 large box of apricot jello - without the cardboard or paper for you who take things literally

Percolate...you can let it go for an hour and then turn it off.  This prevents burned tongues.  If it cools off too much, turn it back on. On off, On off, On off...gives an assigned relative something to do at your house on the holiday!

You can use other juices or jello powders if you want to get creative.  Cranberry for Christmas would be good, too. Orange jello, etc.    If you open your coffee maker and it smells like coffee...never fear, it does not affect the taste.
