Oh, Hannah Montana, my heart is all achy-breaky for you. What did your Dad say after your performance? Was he as proud of you now as when you did your all-wet video shoot
Ahh...MTV's Video Music Awards, affectionately known as the VMAs, have often been used to declare war on innocence via striptease.
It all started with Madonna, in 1984.
People of a certain age will remember this one: At the first MTV Video Music Awards in 1984, performed her hit "Like A Virgin" wearing a combination bustier/wedding gown, including her trademark "Boy Toy" belt. During the performance, she rolled around on the floor, revealing lacy stockings and garter.
Lil' Kim showed up at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards with an entire breast exposed and only a tiny piece of fabric over the nipple. Kim's outfit became even more controversial later when she appeared on stage with Mary J. Blige and Diana Ross to present the Best Hip-Hop Video award, and Ross reached over, cupped her hand under Kim's exposed breast and jiggled it.
Cyrus' predecessor Disney angel, Britney Spears, decided to grow up at the VMAs. At the 2000 Video Music Awards, performed "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" and her hit "Oops!... I Did It Again" which became one of the VMA's most controversial performances mostly due to Spears' ripping off a tuxedo to reveal skin-colored performance attire
And now....Miley Cyrus. As CNN reported, the 20-year-old pop star stepped out onto the stage, wearing a fuzzy gray leotard, as her hit single, "We Can't Stop," played. When she reached the end of her song, the singer stripped down to a flesh-toned latex bra and matching underwear and began to perform "Blurred Lines" alongside Robin Thicke.
I m,ght remind her about Ashton Kutcher's recent sentiment about sexy:
"The sexiest thing in the entire world is being really smart. And being thoughtful. And being generous. Everything else is crap! … It's just crap people try to sell to you to make you feel less."
Ashton Kutcher, accepting his Ultimate Choice Award from the Teen Choice Awards
Now THAT's the sexiest thing I've EVER heard.
And the rest IS crap.
