I'm very happy to say that the Event Calendar for Third Coast/Third World is finally up and running! That's very important for this blog since the entire point of TCTW is to give Chicagoans entry points to social activism. It doesn't work if we don't know what's going on.
If you've got an organization with an event coming up definitely let me know by posting a comment or emailing me at email@example.com. So, what's coming up for September?
The Amnesty International social calendar is heating up. The Chicago group is going to be sponsoring a Write-A-Thon and film night for Syrian peace with events on Sept 13th & 15th. I was actually at a rally yesterday at Michigan & Congress put together by a group of Syrian youth activists in Chicago (more on that coming up) and they've agreed to speak and have given us a pair of great documentary films to view and discuss.
There's also the Marc Ribot benefit concert for Amnesty's 50th Anniversary on Saturday, Sept 10th. Details and ticket info are on the calendar if you'd like to help commemorate 50 years of holding the line on human rights.
That same night is Zeitgeist's Media Festival at Klas Chicago 5734 W Cermak. Wanna start a revolution? The Zeitgeist festival is a great place to start. They're a movement dedicated to waking people up from the stupor of society's pre-conceived notions to build a more egalitarian, completely sustainable planet politically and economically. Check it out if you're so inclined. Revolutionary artists, apply within.
Whether you want to organize for social change or get in the street and fight for it, Third Coast/Third World is the place to be. See you around town.
