As you all know, I am a little obsessed with interior design so it is only natural that I often find myself looking at high end real estate listings in search for cool places with great design. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done. Many of the listings out there have cookie cutter finishes and floorplans aimed at pleasing a larger audience at minimal cost.
Fortunately, I recently reconnected with the owner of a local real estate company called www.ModernChicagoHomes.com. Vik is an avid lover of modern real estate who found a great niche in Chicago, a city known for its cutting edge architecture and design. After talking to Vik about his growing business it occurred to me that it would be great to give ChicagoNow readers a glimpse of the design aspects that make some great listings truly unique. Who knows, maybe seeing some of these places will inspire you to update that tired room you dislike.
The images on this gallery are from an amazing condo at 333 N. Canal. A building known for its breathtaking unobstructed views of the Chicago River and skyline. To my surprise the best part of this condo was the interior. I was thrilled to see such a well designed space characterized by a masculine color palette seamlessly offset by modern yet sophisticated lighting. Carefully selected finishes such as a mosaic stainless steel backsplash, Swarovski crystal and other custom glass lighting as well as a stainless steel satin lattice sink added character and dimension to every room in this condo. Despite my love for great chandeliers, I have to admit that my favorite design elements were by far the very unique 'welding helmet' sconces...see for yourself! Forget that old futon boys, this is the essence of a true bachelor pad!
