Five songs about love and life to add to your playlists

Five songs about love and life to add to your playlists
While I’m all about finding words for everything (and sometimes have too many of them), I’ll admit that I’ve always turned to music to poetically articulate my feelings. And over the years, I’ve come across some amazing songs that in under five minutes get to the heart of it and maybe even a little more.... Read more »

Why holding hands should make you feel special

Why holding hands should make you feel special
When you’re dating someone, there are many moments that can feel absolutely amazing and special. especially those moments that seem so very grand! For me, though, there’s nothing that makes me feel more special than one tiny, innocent gesture: holding hands. There’s an innocence, yet deep desire and affection all tied into that gesture and... Random, obvious lessons from Taylor Swift's breakups

Random, obvious lessons from Taylor Swift's breakups
I’ll admit that although I am not a committed Taylor Swift fan, there are a couple of truths I won’t ignore: (1) some of her music is pretty darn catchy and it’s so easy to get stuck in your head and (2) she’s so present in pop culture that it’s hard NOT to follow her.... Read more »

An Open Letter to Guys Who Stare

An Open Letter to Guys Who Stare
Dear Guys (Who Like Admiring A Pretty Lady), I’ll admit I don’t address you directly very often. Instead, I keep my posts broad and typically spend a lot of time processing all I’ve learned as a result of my love life. However, this time around, I’ve decided to write you all an open letter in response to something that’s always... Read more »

These dating behaviors are reasons to move on

Not too long ago, one of my girlfriends, Candace and I were catching up on dating while out enjoying some drinks. She was in the middle of a guy swipe-fest on one of these popular dating apps, and that immediately gave way to a conversation about dating behaviors that make us batty. First they’re hot,... Five relationship insights backed by studies

Varying political views can affect relationships:

According to a study published in the journal Social Psychology and Personality Science, and authored by academics William Chopik and Matt Motyl, when you’re living with people that have different political views from your own, your ability to accept other perspectives may be affected.
Why it’s logical: Now, if you don’t agree on something as tense as politics, you could SEE how that can naturally cause a whole ton of friction, right? (Especially as polarizing as this election is with these candidates!) And, to add to that, it could be hard to really feel like you can connect and care for someone if you can’t agree on the same things. Even if you only agree to disagree. Otherwise, if you always fought when discussing politics, imagine how bad things can get…

I will be the first to freely admit that as a person who writes/analyzes/fusses/theorizes on relationships, I LOVE studies and research on the topic. I mention them often on this site and truth of the matter is, in many cases, sometimes the findings can be insightful if you apply them to a larger context or... Read more »

Five personal reminders from the single life
In the past year and change since I’ve been single again, there’s one relationship that I have been throwing my heart and soul in to get right: the one I have with myself. It seems silly and obvious, but in the last few years, I’ll admit that I have been a little sloppy with it.... Read more »

Is it time to break-up? Signs you don't ignore in a relationship

Is it time to break-up? Signs you don't ignore in a relationship
It’s definitely true that there are modern rules to the act of dating; however, the objective of dating will always be the same: spending time with someone to determine if you have a long-term future. Eventually, that assessment translates into a break-up or further progression of the relationship — ideally into something long-term or an “I do,”... Read more »

Are your personal dating preferences really useful?

Are your personal dating preferences really useful?
So apparently having dating preferences can be helpful when choosing a potential mate… To a point. Now before many of you shake your head and insist that checklists are important, hold on a second. Although I’m a fan of this too, there’s a new study in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology to thank for this.... Read more »
