After being cancelled, in effect, by Fox television in May, America's Most Wanted will be back on the air full time later this year. Fox had planned to make AMW a series of quarterly two-hour specials. Fox said it was axing the weekly format of AMW because the economics of the show no longer made sense for the network.
Now, AMW will have a 25th season, at least, in its weekly format on Lifetime, a cable channel geared towards women. Host John Walsh said, "I’ve always believed there was something very special about America’s Most Wanted and that there should be a home for it on television, and I couldn’t be happier to now be able bring it back on Lifetime."
The show has led to the capture of more than one thousand fugitive criminals, including several on the FBI's most wanted list. John Walsh became a crime crusader, and eventually host of AMW, after his son Adam was kidnapped and murdered in the 1980s.
