Deadline.com is reporting that critically acclaimed police drama SouthLAnd has been renewed for a third season on cable network TNT. The shows first season aired on NBC before moving to TNT for its second season. NBC abruptly canceled the show before its second season was set to air (finding it too gritty for network television). TNT saved the show, but it had an abbreviated second season at only six episodes.

The show was created by Ann Biderman who won an Emmy for work on NYPD Blue and co-wrote the screenplay for the film Public Enemies. Southland is executive produced by ER and Third Watch veterans John Wells and Christopher Chulack
