If you visited the Lincoln Park Zoo in the last 18 years, you probably heard the magnificent roar of Adelor, the "king" of the zoo's big cats, whose thunder-like cries could literally be felt deep in your own chest.
The elderly African lion was put to rest today after suffering a variety of geriatric health problems. He was 18 years old, which is 4 years older than the median life expectancy for lions. You can visit his online memorial here, and share your own thoughts and memories.
Zoologist Mark Kamhout says Adelor "was a wonderful leader of the pride and was very protective and affectionate of the females under his care."
