Residents, Ex-Alderman File Lawsuit Against Lincoln Park Hospital Plan

Still not sure where I stand on this issue, but the Battle of Webster Square intensified again this week, as former 43rd Ward alderman Martin J. Oberman filed a lawsuit with the Cook County Circuit Court, on behalf of a group of Lincoln Park residents, to stop the redevelopment process at the intersection of Lincoln, Larrabee, and Webster.

Specifically, the suit says that the City Council's rezoning of the hospital site was illegal.
Oberman is a Chicago attorney who served as alderman of Lincoln Park from 1975 to 1987, famous for his support of Mayor Harold Washington during the "Council Wars". Now, he's helping new alderman Michele Smith and a vocal group of Lincoln Park residents stop a massive redevelopment of a cluster of abandoned hospital buildings at the northeastern corner of Oz Park, claiming the new offices, condos, and grocery store will create too much congestion.
