On Christine O'Donnell's official campaign Facebook, she posted this statement last Friday:
"My opponent is canceling debates we had previously scheduled. My campaign team offered to accommodate his schedule, but to no avail. He'd just rather not have to debate me again. Are you feeling the momentum shift occurring? It reminds me of the days before the primary. With your help we can win this!"
She then added a link to a news article about the Coon's canceling their scheduled debates: O'Donnell insists she can win on Election Day while Coons plays it cool
So what does this all mean? I believe what O'Donnell says in that article: "My opponent is obviously scared." There is no other reason that he wouldn't want to debate her. He cannot face another public debate where he is going to get blasted with the Republican truth! He's scared that he'll be humiliated yet again by the people's candidate. But what if the shoe was on the other foot? What if O'Donnell was the one canceling debates? The media would have an absolute field-day with it! But since Coons, a Liberal, does it it's OK. He said, when questioned about these canceled debates, "Delawareans know where Chris Coons
stands, and they know where Christine O'Donnell stands. There's no lack of
clarity there." That may be true, but it doesn't help that he's not connecting with the people. I think of it as this: If he kept those scheduled debates, then maybe the people of Delaware will continue to see him as the Joe Biden clone he is. By canceling these debates with O'Donnell he is publicly showing his fear for her. Just like Simon Cowell wrote off Susan Boyle at first glance, so did Coons underestimate O'Donnell. Now Coons sees that O'Donnell has a certain political savvy and wonderful personality that he will never have, even though he is many years into his political career. The people of Delaware, and her supporters in other states like me, have 10 days to show that O'Donnell can prove triumphant!
