Wu-ing The Crowd - The Fall/Winter 2012 Colletion By Jason Wu

A controlled frenzy of paparazzi surrounded the feral style-conscious spectators as they were all seemingly strategically placed around Anna Wintour, the renowned fashion goddess herself, waiting impatiently to witness what was referred to as the “hottest ticket in town” for New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2012 – Jason Wu’s new Chinese-inspired fashion collection.

A West Soho warehouse was transformed from mundane to magical as the ethereal fog swirling around intense red lights showcased colossal red-lacquered doors that stood center stage… At the precisely timed moment, these doors swung open to heart-pounding transcendental music to reveal pencil-thin, size-zero models sporting long, luxurious ponytails, patent leather pumps, and an enchanting 21st-Century take on Chinese military fashions – complete with detailed epaulets, brass buttons, draping capes and fez-inspired hats. The pinnacle of the entire theatrical performance was embodied in meticulously tailored jackets and skirts made of black, long-haired fur that seemed to float in unison with the military-style march of models in the climactic finale that was clearly a choreographed demonstration of power.

Whether you know Jason Wu from designing the First Lady’s inaugural ball gown, from his new collaboration with the retail giant Target, or from his high-powered sponsor, Bizo faucets – the fashionable plumbing company whose potent slogan states “We believe in dreams” (which has supported Jason from 2006 and totes its own exclusive line designed by Jason Wu himself), it is obvious that dreams have come true for this Taiwanese-American designer, because…dreaming is believing!
