G’Day USA

G’Day USA is a program that fosters deeper economic ties and promotes Australian ideas, talent and innovation in the United States. This year’s program of events are jammed packed with honorees for its highly-anticipated annual G’Day USA Gala in Los Angeles presented by Qantas.

At the launch in Sydney, Australia, Senator The Honorable Marise Payne, Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs said that in its 16th year G’Day USA will continue to showcase the very best Australia has to offer the vast audiences across the United States.    img_8154_1__large curtis-stone-photo-by-ray-kachatorian-1

Senator Payne says,” G’Day USA will highlight the power of Australian ideas through events including the US-Australia Dialogue on Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific in Washington DC and the inaugural US-Australia Dialogue on Cyber Security in San Francisco.”

Another new aspect to this the Space Industry XChange in Colorado, bringing together US and Australian collective expertise in the space sector.

“Commencing in January 2019 in Los Angeles, G'Day USA events will span foreign policy, defense and security, cyber, trade, tourism and investment, creative industries and education,” Senator Payne said.

Senator The Honorable Simon Birmingham, Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment said the 2019 G’Day USA program would also include a renewed focus on promoting trade and investment ties and promoting Australia as a unique tourist destination.

An expanded G’Day USA AUSTRALIA House at the annual South by Southwest conference and festival in Austin, Texas, will showcase Australian creativity, music, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship and Tourism Australia’s Signature Australia Experiences event in Los Angeles will follow the success of the ‘Dundee’ campaign, and promote Australia as a world-class tourist destination.

Minister Birmingham also announced that the 16th annual G’Day USA Los Angeles Gala will honor three exceptional Australians who have made their mark in the creative industries.

Legendary Australian singer Helen Reddy will be honored with a G’Day USA Lifetime Achievement award. Best known for her signature hit I Am Woman, Reddy became a global pop icon and pioneer of the women’s movement.

Acclaimed Australian actor Liam Hemsworth will be honored with a G’Day USA Excellence in Film award in recognition of outstanding performances in films including The Hunger Games and Independence Day: Resurgence.

Production Designer Deborah Riley will be honored with a G’Day USA Outstanding Achievement  in Film and Television award. The four-time Emmy Award winner is a recognized industry leader, whose work in set design and art direction has helped bring the worlds of The Matrix, Moulin Rouge and Game of Thrones to life.

The Los Angeles Gala, on 26 January 2019, will also showcase premium Australian food and wine with a menu curated by Australian chef Curtis Stone. Award-winning Australian actor and comedian Patrick Brammall will host the awards show and dinner.

Further G’Day USA events scheduled for 2019 include the sixth annual US-Australia Dialogue on Defense Industries in Washington DC, the third annual Australian Film Showcase in Los Angeles, and the American Australian Association Arts Awards Dinner returns to New York. G’Day USA will also return to the Palm Springs International ShortFest for its ninth year.
