To Find A New Beauty  (Gold Wake Press 2012) is a beautifully written book of poetry.  At times it seems daunting and intimidating for me as a nonfiction writer to dive into such a well-respected and multifaceted literary genre.  According to Robert Frost, "poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words." When you encounter a book of poetry that you can pour through, especially as an outsider of the genre, it is refreshing. I am grateful for a positive first experience. The majority of the poems required a second reading, not for meaning, but for appreciation and pleasure. Reading them a second time allowed for me to retrieve my personal built in schema for the prose. I obtained the text while attending the AWP conference in Boston.  The coolest aspect of the encounter  was learning that the author is based here in Chicago.  Andrea  teaches at the University of Illinois at Chicago and is an associate editor at Rhino Poetry. Her collection is poetry is worth the purchase.  Even if you are just as intimidated by the genre as I am, you will appreciate the poem "Graphics", which has a  narrative format yet keeps you engaged from start to finish.
