On Being a Redhead in Norway

On Being a Redhead in Norway
In case you haven’t been stalking me (cough Jack cough cough), I just returned from the land of the Vikings — Norway. Now I used to believe that this is where us redheads came from, but apparently new studies have proved this false. My experience on being a redhead in Norway (as compared to Israel,... Read more »

Redheads Came from Scotland, Not the Vikings

Redheads Came from Scotland, Not the Vikings
Despite my claim that red hair came from the Vikings, apparently new research shows it most likely came from Scotland. Uff da. On the brighter (or should I say, cloudier?) side of things the article says the following amazing things about redheads, proving we are a superior race: “People carrying the gene had the fairest skin... Viking Redheads

On seeing Viking ships in Norway: “Gazing up at the prow of one of these sleek, time-stained vessels, you can almost hear the screams and smell the armpits of those redheads on the rampage.” (From Rick Steve’s Snapshot Norway) Add your email address to subscribe to The Ginger Philes, if you dare:

Russell Means Red

Russell Means Red
As a gift for my mom’s first post-retirement birthday, my brother and I chipped in on a membership to Ancestry.com. She’s been blabbing on and on about wanting to do genealogy, but I think she needed a kick in the butt to start acting on it. And that’s what I, as the proverbial redheaded (non... Read more »

Where Did Redheads Come From?

In case you haven’t heard, scientists have “discovered” that red hair became an evolution thing when humans moved out of Africa 50,000 years ago. Homo sapiens began to become redheads to adapt to colder/darker climates where we wouldn’t get as much Vitamin D. And now our pale skin makes us not need as much Vitamin... Read more »

So I’ve been struck with the plague so many Chicagoans are currently facing (the common cold) but in case you haven’t seen it already, The Ginger Philes was interviewed by the New York Post! The story is about how redheads are more prone to melanoma (duh!) but here’s the shocker: we are more prone to... Read more »

The Ginger Phile has had the unfortunate disposition of being a ginger since birth. She has tried various medications to cure her gingervitis, including therapies such as tantrum-throwing. Her efforts have been to no avail. Instead, she is trying to write it out, via this blog. Unfortunately, she doesn't think it will bear a soul for her. The Ginger Phile is from the exotic land of Wisconsin, where she had daily inner turmoil over whether she was a ginger or a daywalker. So far, three of three votes say daywalker. She begs to differ, as someone recently told her they would want to be with her if they were biking at night because she is so pale.
