Early 20s Nostalgia

Early 20s Nostalgia
I’ve been feeling nostalgic about 2009-2011ish lately. Everything felt new & fresh. It was the dawn of the social media age, and I had Twitter before pretty much anyone else did (#humblebrag). Through social media, I was building a personal brand, getting to talk to editors of big magazines who otherwise would’ve never given me... Read more »

Red Hair Fading Acceptance

Red Hair Fading Acceptance
“Babe, your hair is getting so blonde!” my hairstylist said. “What are you doing to my beautiful red hair?” “Nothing. It’s fading,” I said, nearly in tears. My coworker S has been telling me lately that he thinks of me more as a blonde than a redhead. Le sigh. “Are you going grey? You’re too... Read more »

Exotic Redheads: Offensive?

Exotic Redheads: Offensive?
Growing up outside of Milwaukee, in a town with mostly descendants of German immigrants and then later attending school with mostly Scandinavian descendants, I stood out with my red hair but not overly so. I shared my paleness and blue eyes with at least half of the population. My best friends always had blonde hair,... Read more »

Redheads Dating Other Redheads

Redheads Dating Other Redheads
Apparently fear of a ginger’s wrath is real, because the guy I was seeing (not ginger) … broke up with me. Via text message. He always teased me for being a vampire, but I think his jokes were a crutch for his fear of my fangs. And he was right to be afraid. Very afraid.... Read more »

2016 New Year's Resolutions for Redheads

2016 New Year's Resolutions for Redheads
1. Wear sunscreen. Everyday. One of the best things you can do for your health and to prevent wrinkles is wear sunscreen. Look for products with SPF 15; that’s all you need. An easy way to incorporate sunscreen into your daily routine is by using moisturizer that is already combined with SPF. 2. And while... Read more »

Redhead Festival Chicago

Redhead Festival Chicago
Just as a reminder, the Chicago offshoot of Redhead Days in the Netherlands is coming up soon. If you’re like me, everyone and their brother shared this Chicagoist article with you, as if though they were the first to discover. And if you’re my actual brother, you wrote this when your redheaded friend posted the... Read more »

Curly Haircut Salon Reviews Chicago

Curly Haircut Salon Reviews Chicago
In addition to being a ginger supremacist, I am also a curly hair supremacist. For some reason, it also seems that many redheads have curly hair. Whenever someone sees me with straight hair and gives me the backhanded compliment, “You look so much better with straight hair,” a little piece of me dies inside. God gave... Read more »

Gingers Finally Rally to Protest Redism

Gingers Finally Rally to Protest Redism
Redheads plan to demonstrate against gingerism in the most appropriate location, Scotland, next month on August 10. Numbers are expected to be in the hundreds. Apparently it’s a PR ploy by Canadian ginger comedian Shawn Hitchins. Yet, Scots aren’t treating the Ginger Pride Walk like a joke. I just wonder if there’ll be as many... Read more »

Ginger Pro-Philes: Zach Zaidman, "The Ginger Genius"

Ginger Pro-Philes: Zach Zaidman, "The Ginger Genius"
Thanks to commenter, Jack, I’m now aware of Chicago’s own ginger sports reporting hero, Zach Zaidman. I don’t like the Bears, so I don’t care too much, but since he’s a reporter and a ginger and in Chicago, I feel obligated to post about him. The first thing that popped up when I Googled ZZ... The Ginger Phile has had the unfortunate disposition of being a ginger since birth. She has tried various medications to cure her gingervitis, including therapies such as tantrum-throwing. Her efforts have been to no avail. Instead, she is trying to write it out, via this blog. Unfortunately, she doesn't think it will bear a soul for her. The Ginger Phile is from the exotic land of Wisconsin, where she had daily inner turmoil over whether she was a ginger or a daywalker. So far, three of three votes say daywalker. She begs to differ, as someone recently told her they would want to be with her if they were biking at night because she is so pale.
