Latinos & Redheads & PB&Js

Latinos & Redheads & PB&Js

Ok, this is totally stereotypical. However, it seems every Mexican/other Latino I've ever known has been obsessed with redheads. The other day, this manifested itself when for the first time, and LatinA (so female, NOT male), approached me and said, "I love your hair. It's so pretty, and I am so jealous."

Of course I took the compliment in stride but the thing is, this girl was drop dead gorgeous. Caramel skin, dark, wavy, flowing hair, defined eyebrows and big brown eyes. I am jealous of her. We always want the opposite of what we have, it seems. Maybe this is why Latinos and redheads go together like peanut butter and jelly. We're just othered enough to relate but still enough of a part of mainstream society to be considered semi-normal.

However, Latinos are a growing population (at least in the U.S.) while redheads are shrinking. Sad day. Good thing some Latinos have the ginger gene.

The Ginger Phile has had the unfortunate disposition of being a ginger since birth. She has tried various medications to cure her gingervitis, including therapies such as tantrum-throwing. Her efforts have been to no avail. Instead, she is trying to write it out, via this blog. Unfortunately, she doesn't think it will bear a soul for her. The Ginger Phile is from the exotic land of Wisconsin, where she had daily inner turmoil over whether she was a ginger or a daywalker. So far, three of three votes say daywalker. She begs to differ, as someone recently told her they would want to be with her if they were biking at night because she is so pale.
