"Reservoir Dogs" (Roundhouse Productions): Bitches Kicking Ass and Taking Aim!

#2.  Action, intrigue, jocularity, that’s what I love about a good heist flick.  What do I dislike about caper flicks?  Women!  The absence of women like in “Snatch” annoys me.  The presence of a woman as a prize like in “Oceans 11” aggravates me.  The existence of women as intelligent but scantily-clad crooks like in “Fast Five” infuriates me.  And the countless number of movies portraying women as petrified, victimized, fragile buffoons makes me want to take a knife and slit someone’s throat.  Yeah, guess what, women can do that too!

Roundhouse Productions presents RESERVOIR DOGS.  It’s the Quentin Tarantino movie but this time it’s all gals.  No guys!  Jo is a big time mobster.  She recruits a team of crooks to knock over a jewelry store.  The women don’t know each other.  And that’s how Jo wants it.  Each of her crew is focused on securing the diamonds and getting out.   The simple and anonymous plan should pay off.  What could go wrong?  A mole that’s a rat!  Roundhouse’s RESERVOIR DOGS is bitches kicking ass and taking aim.

The idea of this project fascinated me.  And the execution enthralled me.  Director Cody Evans pulls together a powerhouse of strong women to play these criminals.  There is no hair flipping or tight sexy outfits.  It’s primarily ponytails and suits.  The dialogue is crass and clipping.  It could almost be unisex sans the lipstick.  But this show is definitely broad-minded and a bit revolutionary.  The female ensemble packs heat and a wallop.  They punch... not like girls, like individuals pissed off.  I loved that!  They get their cues from Ally Reinke.  As fight captain, Reinke gets these gals to (wo)man up!  And then as Ms. Pink, Reinke is hysterical with her slightly “Rainman”-like explanations.  Whitney LaMora (Ms. Blonde) plays crook with psycho killer qu'est que c'est.  A smiling, knife-slashing LaMora is playfully creepy.  A fast-talking Brittany Ellis (Ms. White) is the soft touch in the volatile snitch hunt.  Ellis keeps it from getting female-sappy by grounding herself in the camaraderie zone.  The entire cast is a bunch of bodacious ovary-busters!

This is not a cat fight!  Diamonds are a girl’s best friend and these dudes -that just happen to be women- are ready to kill for them! Roundhouse’s RESERVOIR DOGS is an entertaining gender-bender.  Hello, Quentin, you should see this show!
