'Hello young lovers, whoever you are,' an 'enchanted evening' awaits you at the No Exit Café. Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre presents SOME ENCHANTED EVENING: THE SONGS OF RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN. Thirty-six songs in ten musicals by six performers with one baby grand piano: 'It's A Grand Night for Singing.' This 'Something Wonderful' showcases the timeless classics of the formidable team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. The "Carousel" of "The Sound of Music" is a charming whirlwind of familiarity of 'my favorite things.' The legendary 'people will say were in love' stories are 'whistle a happy tune' variety. 'When you know the notes to sing,' the melodiously spirit makes you want to jump in to 'sing most anything.' Theo Ubique's SOME ENCHANTED EVENING 'climbs every mountain' and is 'busting out all over' for 'oh, what a beautiful' show!
'Getting to know' the performers is 'getting to like' them. 'A wonderful guy' on the piano, Austin Cook is also conducting the musical direction. An animated Cook plays the piano from every angle. His zesty enthusiasm undoubtedly makes him the 'cockeyed optimist.' 'There is nothing like a dame' and this production's threesome 'enjoy being a girl' to spectacular heights. Dana Tretta is 'a girl who can't say no' with sparkly sass. Danni Smith sings about 'the gentleman being a dope' with an intriguing mix of brazen, soulfulness. Chicago newcomer Sara Schoch goes for 'all er nothin' leading to 'out of my dream' experience. This 'honeybun' has a powerful presence. Her 'if I loved you' duet with Jeremy Trager is a passionate, heart-felt moment. Trager continues the teary emotional connection with a masterful 'This was nearly mine.' Evan Tyrone Martin goes from a sweet bouquet of 'edelweiss' to a hilarious bunch of 'don't marry me' reasoning. 'Many a new day will dawn before' there is another Rodgers & Hammerstein-palooza like this!
From 'my own little corner,' the expansive white, marble-like set is the big monument in the room. It lights up in various colors for different songs. 'There are times I almost think I am not sure of what I absolutely know.' It looks like an art deco bathroom which just seems odd for a 1940's-1950's musical review. 'Puzzlement!' 'Who can explain it? Who can tell you why? Fools give you reasons, Wise men never try.' SOME ENCHANTED EVENING is an all magical night. 'We've just been introduced, I do not know you well, but when the music started, something drew me to your side.' The challenge is not to join the cast in singing!
'Younger than springtime', Brian describes the show with 'it's harmoniously delicious.'
