Walmart has finally gained some serious traction downtown. After years of having no presence, they have finally penetrated the downtown market with today's Grand Opening of their West Loop Neighborhood Store.
The new store is located at 555 W Madison. The store is located in Presidential Towers, one of the city's largest apartment complexes. The new store aims to target the grocery needs of the neighborhood so we can assume that they have left the hunting and fishing section to their larger locations.
The store is 27,000 sq ft. Translation: mini-Walmart. At 1/4 of the usual size they have plenty of produce and they will continue rolling back prices.
Well some residents are groaning about the ethical conundrum Walmart often elicits, others are celebrating easy access to cheap groceries.
