Back at the beginning of 2009 we attended the Kent Film Festival with our first film "Persephone" which ended up winning Best Experimental Short. And who was there to present the awards but a lovely lady by the name of Lynn Redgrave.
Admittedly I didn't recognize what an honor this was at the time (though I assure you it felt like an pretty big honor even so!) The conversation with my folks after the fact went something like this:
Me: So we won Best Experimental Short at Kent over the weekend.
My Folks: That's great! Congratulations! Tell us all about it.
Me: I wasn't expecting it at all.
My Folks: Did you get a plaque or anything?
Me: Yeah there's this sort of glass trophy thing. They had this actress, Lynn Redgrave there to present the awards.
My Folks: Lynn Redgrave!?
Me: Yeah... um... is that someone I should know of?
My Folks: Yes, honey, you should.
I wish I had known then what I know now. There are so many people who pass in and out of our lives that we don't know and probably should that moments like these serve to emphasize, at least to me, how significant brief meetings can be.
