I am still sweeping up from all the last-minute Valentine's events I plugged into the previous calendar. Just enough time to punch this one out while I work on some "overview" pages from some local breweries. It's a new thing I'm trying.
I also hope to get ahead of schedule on St. Patrick's weekend events. I may have to decide to be more selective in what gets listed: I already left out those that offer nothing but green-dyed megabrews. Is it enough just to say you have Guinness on tap, or do we need something more? We'll see...
I've got all the Valentine events that have to do with good beer, or the dinners that place at beer-friendly restaurants. But there are certainly more to come. And I will be adding them as I find them.
And I have yet another closing to report, I'm afraid. After five years of operation, Das Radler
, the German Logan Square restaurant, is closing. They will have a few weeks before their final box. Eater Chicago story.
So what's going on this week in the beer world?
Tuesday is Shrove Tuesday, also known as Mardi Gras, Panckae Day and Pączki Day. For some of us, a last chance to indulge, or to pair beer with sugary pastries.
Wednesday is Valentine's Day, so we have plenty of romantic beer dinners, or at least Valentine's specials at places known for good beer.
Saturday is the Cider Summit
at Navy Pier, so several cider makers are already in town for what they're calling Chicago Cider Week...

It occurs to me that Valentine's Day this year falls during Lent. At least it's not right on Ash Wednesday like it will be in 2018. But if you want to be particularly observant (or cheap), you can claim to your date you want to do as the Monks did during Lent: abstaining from everything but beer!
