Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, October 11-13

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, October 11-13
We're still slowly running down the Oktoberfest season, and just now ramping up the brief period for Pumpkin Beers, then Halloween parties...

Chicago Week in Craft Beer, October 7-10

Chicago Week in Craft Beer, October 7-10
I'm strangely worn out this evening, but I have gathered the week's events and posted them now. I will pull in the information on local winners from the Great American Beer Festival if I can...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, October 4-6

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, October 4-6
Oktoberfest is slowly winding down in Chicago, and conjoining with regular Sunday Bears games. We have another big fest at the Field Museum, and pretty soon we'll be looking at Halloween parties. Be still, my aching typing fingers. This is the weekend of the Great American Beer Festival, Thursday through Saturday in Denver. The event is capped by a judging of beers in 109 style categories. I will try to bring the list of local winners shortly after they're announced...

Chicago Week in Craft Beer, September 30 – October 3

Chicago Week in Craft Beer, September 30 – October 3
The pace of Oktoberfest beer events has slowed, but there will be more on weekends into October. And hey, we've just had some "Halfway to St. Patrick's Day" events, should we also plan on some "Halfway to Oktoberfests" in March and April...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 27-29

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 27-29
I have yet another full slate of Oktoberfest style events. I also have the grand opening of one more Chicago brewer, Midwest Coast on the near West Side. And have you been to a "Big Lebowski" screening with beer? Here's another chance...

Chicago's Craft Beer Week, September 23-26

Chicago's Craft Beer Week, September 23-26
Oktoberfest has kicked off its first weekend. Officially, the original Okotberfest goes on all week, so I have a few of those listed here. To spare thumbs from excessive scrolling, I've listed weeklong events just within the first day they happen, with the other days' schedules in the same article. We are also creeping into the time for big hearty beer releases, starting with some Revolution previews. I've added Pipeworks Oktoberfest beer to my beer styles cheat sheet page. So far this year, I've only been able to add this and the Shiner Okto. And I've had to drop out the Baderbräu Oktoberfest, since it's kind of not available anymore. Please do check the page out...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 20-22

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 20-22
Crickets! As of posting time Wednesday, I have nearly 100 beer events this weekend. Put the blame on Oktoberfest, which is traditionally the third weekend of September. I have tried to feature Oktoberfest celebrations that mention craft beer, or sought-after German imports. There were dozens more that did not mention any beer being served. They may still be added as I head into the weekend. In the middle of all this gemütlichkeit, we have another grand opening, for Holzlager Brewing in Woodstock. I also should note, that the South Shore Beer Fest in Indiana has been cancelled for the second year in a row, due to low ticket sales. Maybe this weekend has too many events competing for beer money...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 13-15

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 13-15
We're now deep into Oktoberfest season… just to bring everyone up to speed, the Germans themselves moved Oktoberfest to September because the later celebrations interfered with needed harvest work. It's not doing a "Christmas in July." One of the bloggers on my right rail (that column on the right side of the web page, natch) figures prominently in the #IAmCraftBeer hashtag campaign still trending on Twitter. I'm in that list somewhere myself. You can read the full story at Josh Noel's Tribune article, and join in yourself...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 6-8

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 6-8
Apologies to anyone who finds my beer events failing to load. I thought I had a solution in a new cloud server, but it only had a 2-day trial period. My quest to improve the user experience continues. This weekend sees not only the much-talked-about Kveik Fest, but the first Oktoberfests in the Chicago area. And I have started to update my style page on Oktoberfest beers...

Chicago Week in Craft Beer, September 2-5

Chicago Week in Craft Beer, September 2-5
I'm repeating Monday's listing from the weekend, just because some establishments might post last minute events, or even just the fact that they're open on Labor Day. Plus we have the start of Bears football on Thursday.
Update: Well, now my NEW server has already expired its "trial account". Went to my fallback site for now. I have been having more difficulty lately getting my little application to serve beer event listings. I blame myself, for relying on a free host (x10hosting.com) that goes down more often than a cold glass of beer at a stadium. Geek info ahead: Well, my calendar function is just served from a couple of small PHP files, only 250 kB including a few Java scripts for text formatting CSS files. But I seem to be blessed with more readers wanting to know about beer here. So I have opened an account on Firebase.com's Cloudways platform, where the hip kids are hosting full blown apps. I seem to be qualified for a free tier of service, which suits me. I've been testing this page over the weekend, and if you see it with this introduction, than means I've got it pretty well figured out. I do know it's loading much faster already. Hooray! If you still get an error message, please let me know! This kind of genius thinking calls for a beer...
