Chicago's Black Wednesday Beer Events, November 22

Chicago's Black Wednesday Beer Events, November 22
This holiday beer season, I'm publishing my calendar of events for Black Wednesday now, with Black Friday to come very shortly after. These days bracketing Thanksgiving Day have become important not just for Christmas shopping, but for folks in Chicago to get their lips around Goose Island's Bourbon County Stouts and variants. BCS goes on draft Wednesday, while bottles will be available Friday at the re-opened and re-named Goose Island Brewhouse, and at retailers around the area. Here's my preview of the 2017 BCS variants. Meanwhile, other brewers and establishments will be taking advantage of the hubbub to put on some big beer events of their own. For those coming across my events articles for the first time, each day's events are fed in from my Google Calendar by a little programming app I wrote myself. All I have to do is enter new events on the calendar, and they appear here. However, the events appear inside a separate HTML iframe, so this article has a scrollbar inside the usual scrollbar. And check back, we'll be adding more events...

I Previewed the 2017 Goose Island Bourbon County Stouts
The Goose Island Beer Company hosted local beer writers on Thursday for a preview sampling of the Bourbon County Brand Stout releases for 2017. The sampling of BCS and its variants was held at Goose Island’s Barrel House on North Sacramento Blvd. I last saw the warehouse for a BCS event in 2014, when it... Read more »

Craft Beer Review: Goose Island Four Star Pils
Time to dip again into my stash of beer and writie about one from our hometown craft brewers. Goose Island Beer Co. has returned a pilsener to its regular lineup with Four Star Pils. Why I Wasn't at Goose Island Rare Day
Okay, I had a cheap SEO headline in an attempt to grab cheap clicks. But now that you’re here, come read this little story. In October, Goose Island Beer Co. opened a lottery for its 2015 Rare Day. This wasn’t to win tickets to the event itself, but to “win” the privilege of paying $40... Read more »

Review: Bourbon County Backyard Rye 2013

Review: Bourbon County Backyard Rye 2013
I hope I helped everyone get to some places where they could get at least a taste of the Black Friday beer deals. For myself, waiting a few hours in the cold would probably be very bad for me. Besides, how much longer could I go without taking my kids to see Big Hero 6. Since... Read more »

Touring Goose Island's Barrel-Aging Warehouse
Back in October, I was among this town’s beer writers who got the privilege of touring Goose Island’s new barrel warehouse at 603 N. Sacramento. I also got, of course, a taste of the 2014 Bourbon County Brand Stout and its variants. I’d like to say I held off on offering you this description to... Read more »

Chicago Craft Beer Events, August 1–3
It’s Lollapalooza weekend and… well… well what. Musically I have to admit to being older than the stuff they made dirt out of, even if there is always a new band or two I can get into. But where’s the beer? In my world, Lollapalooza is every weekend. Let’s welcome yet another Chicago brewer to... Read more »
