Chicago Black Friday Beer Weekend, November 23-25

Chicago Black Friday Beer Weekend, November 23-25
Here we are at the high holiday for Chicago beer fans. I’ve had people message me asking about events because they’re flying in from the West Coast, and want to know what else is going on. So hang on. Here’s what’s going on. If you really don’t feel like lining up for BCS starting the... Read more »

Goose Island’s Prop Day Lottery Starts October 1

Goose Island’s Prop Day Lottery Starts October 1
We may still be in the middle of “avoiding pumpkin spice things” season, but it’s time to think ahead to that most intense of beer holidays: Black Friday. Fans of the dark and heavy stuff, though, can get a jump start on their seasonal Imperial Stouts by signing up for the Goose Island Prop Day lottery.... Read more »

Local Beer Review: Goose Island Fulton Street Blend

Local Beer Review: Goose Island Fulton Street Blend
Hey, I feel the need to pop another beer and review it. Are you with me? I know I get more than a few Goose Island beers sent to me for comment, but this one I purchased myself. Because hey, coffee beer. Fulton Street Blend is a Golden Ale base, infused with Intelligentsia Coffee’s House... Read more »

Got back from a weekend at the parents’ home in Iowa with all my siblings for an early 60th Anniversary celebration. Also picked up some Iowa beers that I’m posting to the Ratebeer sidebar down there to your right. And the night after I got back, I was able to quickly do a new video... Read more »

Illinois Craft Beer Week Highlights, Sunday May 20

Illinois Craft Beer Week Highlights, Sunday May 20
I have picked out most of the events for Illinois Craft Beer Week, as well as whatever else might be going on. I tend to pick up events from places that are on my Facebook feed, then I went to the ICBW site. So between these two sources, I hope I’ve got things pretty well... Read more »

We are now heading into Illinois Craft Beer Week, starting May 18, plus this weekend's Dark Lord Day. Add to that a week of events for Goose island's 30th Anniversary, and I'm keeping busy bringing them to you. Watch for daily updates, which will themselves be updated frequently...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, May 11-13

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, May 11-13
The schedule is getting busier by the day, with Mother's Day on Sunday, and positioning for Dark Lord Day and Illinois Craft Beer Week on the horizon. I'll be pushing out pages early, then updating often, so check back often! And I admit I won't be able to track ALL of the ICBW events (but then, I'll have some regular events that are not part of the "Week," so I won't feel slighted if you download the app from the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild...

Local Beer Preview: Goose Island Dry-Hopped 312

Local Beer Preview: Goose Island Dry-Hopped 312
This has been a bad evening at Beeronaut Mission Control. Our guinea pig Mr. Whiskers passed on after we cared for him just over a year; he had been re-homed from another family that was getting a dog, and was at least 4 years old, about the limit for such critters. Much sadness all around.... Read more »

Review: Goose Island's Cooper Project Beers

Review: Goose Island's Cooper Project Beers
Today, December 5 as of my starting this article, is Repeal Day, noting the 84th anniversary of the end of Prohibition. Of course, I thought to celebrate. The Standard Market near me was running a special at their CUBE bar, they were open earlier and I could hit it before work for a few tasters.... Read more »

Chicago's Black Wednesday Beer Events, November 22

Chicago's Black Wednesday Beer Events, November 22
This holiday beer season, I'm publishing my calendar of events for Black Wednesday now, with Black Friday to come very shortly after. These days bracketing Thanksgiving Day have become important not just for Christmas shopping, but for folks in Chicago to get their lips around Goose Island's Bourbon County Stouts and variants. BCS goes on draft Wednesday, while bottles will be available Friday at the re-opened and re-named Goose Island Brewhouse, and at retailers around the area. Here's my preview of the 2017 BCS variants. Meanwhile, other brewers and establishments will be taking advantage of the hubbub to put on some big beer events of their own. For those coming across my events articles for the first time, each day's events are fed in from my Google Calendar by a little programming app I wrote myself. All I have to do is enter new events on the calendar, and they appear here. However, the events appear inside a separate HTML iframe, so this article has a scrollbar inside the usual scrollbar. And check back, we'll be adding more events...
