I have picked out most of the events for Illinois Craft Beer Week, as well as whatever else might be going on. I tend to pick up events from places that are on my Facebook feed, then I went to the ICBW site. So between these two sources, I hope I’ve got things pretty well... Read more »
We are now heading into Illinois Craft Beer Week
, starting May 18, plus this weekend's Dark Lord Day. Add to that a week of events for Goose island's 30th Anniversary, and I'm keeping busy bringing them to you. Watch for daily updates, which will themselves be updated frequently...
The schedule is getting busier by the day, with Mother's Day on Sunday, and positioning for Dark Lord Day and Illinois Craft Beer Week on the horizon. I'll be pushing out pages early, then updating often, so check back often! And I admit I won't be able to track ALL of the ICBW events (but then, I'll have some regular events that are not part of the "Week," so I won't feel slighted if you download the app from the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild
This has been a bad evening at Beeronaut Mission Control. Our guinea pig Mr. Whiskers passed on after we cared for him just over a year; he had been re-homed from another family that was getting a dog, and was at least 4 years old, about the limit for such critters. Much sadness all around.... Read more »
Today, December 5 as of my starting this article, is Repeal Day, noting the 84th anniversary of the end of Prohibition. Of course, I thought to celebrate. The Standard Market near me was running a special at their CUBE bar, they were open earlier and I could hit it before work for a few tasters.... Read more »
This holiday beer season, I'm publishing my calendar of events for Black Wednesday now, with Black Friday to come very shortly after.
These days bracketing Thanksgiving Day have become important not just for Christmas shopping, but for folks in Chicago to get their lips around Goose Island's Bourbon County Stouts and variants. BCS goes on draft Wednesday, while bottles will be available Friday at the re-opened and re-named Goose Island Brewhouse, and at retailers around the area. Here's my preview
of the 2017 BCS variants.
Meanwhile, other brewers and establishments will be taking advantage of the hubbub to put on some big beer events of their own.
For those coming across my events articles for the first time, each day's events are fed in from my Google Calendar by a little programming app I wrote myself. All I have to do is enter new events on the calendar, and they appear here. However, the events appear inside a separate HTML iframe, so this article has a scrollbar inside the usual scrollbar. And check back, we'll be adding more events...
The Goose Island Beer Company hosted local beer writers on Thursday for a preview sampling of the Bourbon County Brand Stout releases for 2017. The sampling of BCS and its variants was held at Goose Island’s Barrel House on North Sacramento Blvd. I last saw the warehouse for a BCS event in 2014, when it... Read more »
Time to dip again into my stash of beer and writie about one from our hometown craft brewers. Goose Island Beer Co. has returned a pilsener to its regular lineup with Four Star Pils. The Goose had a Pilsener lager some years ago. They had briefly kept the Baderbräu brand going after the original brewer... Read more »
Okay, I had a cheap SEO headline in an attempt to grab cheap clicks. But now that you’re here, come read this little story. In October, Goose Island Beer Co. opened a lottery for its 2015 Rare Day. This wasn’t to win tickets to the event itself, but to “win” the privilege of paying $40... Read more »
Two craft brewers with a Chicago ties have undergone the merger route in the past four days. Tuesday morning, the beer world was hit with an announcement that Lagunitas Brewing Co., the Petaluma, CA-based beer maker with a huge Chicago brewery, had sold a 50% share to Heineken N.V., currently the world’s third largest brewing...
