Chicago Craft Beer & FoBAB Weekend Events - November 20-22
Updated to add more Sunday events. A little barrel-aged hair of the dog! Every few weeks, I think “this will be the busiest weekend for Chicago craft beer” ever. And then I’m proved wrong. FoBAB is this weekend. It’s sold out, but there are plenty of related events you can get to. Then next week... Read more »

Chicago Craft Beer Events, November 10–13
The Festival of (Wood and) Barrel-Aged Beer hits town this weekend, probably the biggest craft beer event in Chicago. Wish I had tickets, but I don’t. Wish I could give away tickets, but I can’t. But here are some pre-FoBAB events you can enjoy, with less parking hassle. Monday, November 10 6:00 – 8:00 pm... Read more »

Chicago Weekend Craft Beer Highlights, November 16-18
I'm going to try and keep the calendar feature running again. This is thanks to an app I wrote to better format listings from my Google Calendar, which should cut down on my editing time. Besides, I need to offer alternatives for those of us without FoBAB tickets!

3:00 pm • 5730.06 Miles of Beer Local Option, 1102 W. Webster Ave., Chicago (773) 348-2008 Local Option hosts “5730.06 Miles of Beer.” Beer nerds from around the world will flock to 1102 W. Webster to bask in the glory of superb draught offerings from a collection of breweries spanning two continents and seven countries. The event’s name evinces the distance between St. Feuillien (Le Roeulx, Belgium) and Green Flash (San Diego California) who collaborated in the creation of two beers on the list: Friendship Brew – a black saison that utilizes European and American hops, Belgian yeast and spices – and Biere de l’Amitie, a contemporary take on the blond saison with rye and wheat malt, and dry-hopped with Amarillo. Intrepid souls will be able to try the first offering from the world’s most recently anointed Trappist brewery Stift Engelszell (Austria)...

Beeronaut's Chicago Weekend, November 11 to 13

I'm trying to clear the decks to go on hiatus, but there's always something: Thursday Surly tapping, someone asking me prettyplease to list their event, so forth. But I shall endeavor to make arrangement to keep some events listed through my Google Calendar or Facebook fan page (see the links below). If you like, you can share my beer ratings at I never said I'd stop enjoying beer!

Hail to the Chairman Maria's Packaged Goods & Community Bar, 960 W. 31st St., Chicago Half Acre Brewing Co., 4257 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago (773) 248 4038 On 11/11/11, we are releasing a commemorative Lumpen 20th Anniversary beer called The Chairman. It’s an Imperial Red Ale created to remember the men and women who worked on Lumpen magazine and became Chairmen of the Boring Theoretical Party (BTP). The Boring Theoretical Party began in the 1990’s. It was Lumpen magazine’s response to the boring, and uh, theoretically inclined armchair lefties. We started a “Worker’s Newspaper” edited by Chairman Thar, our beloved leader. Our symbols were the Armadillo and the Hoe. We had a theme song, a salute (raised fist while yawning), and we promoted that everyone should be the Chairman of their own Party. You have a chance to bring a Chairman to the Party. Get a bottle (or three) at Half Acre Brewing Company or Maria’s Packaged Goods & Community Bar on November 11, 2011. We will celebrate at Maria’s with a Half Acre Tap Takeover, pouring drafts of The Chairman, Lagertown Novemberfest, Barrel Aged Small Animal Big Machine, Mr. Ouroboros, Daisy Cutter, Over Ale and other treats from the brewery. Bottle Sales begin at Half Acre at 11 am. Join Maria's for the party at 8:00 p.m...
