The coldest weather anybody's memory is now a reality. I have seen a lot of Facebook postings from bars, restaurants and liquor stores noting that they are closing today and/or Wednesday and/or Thursday. I had though most brewers would stay open, but they will mostly have not opened their tap room; for your
protection and the protection of their personnel. Nearly all my listings has a link in the name of the bar or brewer that will take you to their web page, or we have a phone number for most of them. So if you really
want to go out for a beer, you can check ahead. And as a reminder, the globe icon on each listing will show you the place in a Google Map.
I have added, as I find them, a few listings for places simply assuring us they are open during the deep freeze.

There's a new dust-up in the regional beer scene. Toppling Goliath, the fan-favorite brewery in Decorah, IA, has sued its former head brewer, Chris Flenker. Flenker had worked for TG until January 2017, under terms of a noncompete contract that said he couldn't work for another brewery within 150 miles of Decorah for two years. But Flenker has been named head brewer of Thew Brewing Co., a startup brewer in nearby Cedar Rapids. The story appears in the Cedar Rapids Gazette
. Meantime, people commenting on the case have been finding themselves blocked from TG's Twitter feeds and other social media.
Meantime, we have these events, leading to the weekend with Great taste of the Midwest, and the Lagunitas Beer Circus...
We have yet another brewery making its break into the Chicago market. Collective Arts Brewing of Canada is making its aesthetic splash this week. This weekend past, a couple of events got rained out. Luckily the Cubs opened the NLCS in Los Angeles. Let's hope the weather lets up when they come home for Game Three on Tuesday. We'll have more of those events in this space later.
I'm still waiting for pump some more details about the planned opening of Jolly Pumpkin's new restaurant and brewery in Hyde Park on Thursday. And I'll have an article up shortly bout Canadian Brewer Collective Arts, which is making its debut in Chicago this week...
