Chicago Craft Beer Week, July 15-18

Chicago Craft Beer Week, July 15-18
Time for an irregular reminder of what kind of events I promote on this list: Basically, it's anything involving beer sampling, tasting, new releases, or beer dinners. Beer festivals and the opening of new breweries. Fundraisers, so long as the general public is invited to attend. I regret that I have not had the time to put in live shows or food truck stops. There are just too many of them to fit comfortably. Likewise painting classes, yoga, or even trivia contests. And I am about the trivia. If the event mentions the tapping of a new beer, though that would count. I have put the "like" on nearly every brewery and beer bar in the Chicago area on Facebook. So I try to catch all your posts and new events. I'm also on a lot of mailing lists, to inform me of even more events. If you've got beer-centric activities you'd like to see in this space, just click the "E-mail Me!" link at the top of this page...

Chicago Craft Beer Events, May 20-23
I've finally finished with Dark Lord Day and Illinois Craft Beer Week events. So I can take it a little easy this week. But I see my blog has gotten a bit more of an echo lately, judging from the spam get-rich-quick schemes I deleted from my comments queue. Yay...

Many apples have been crushed for your enjoyment this week, as we observe Chicago Cider Week in advance of Saturday's Chicago Cider Summit at Navy Pier. And watching the Super Bowl at this point in posting my article, we find Budweiser wants you to know they don't use "corn syrup" in their Bud Light. They don't want to tell you about rice syrup. Monday update: HopCat, the Chicago edition of a chain of craft beer bars emanating from Michigan, abruptly announced that it is closing today. This statement has appeared on its website:

Chicago Craft Beer Events, October 8-11
The stream of Oktoberfest events has slowed down as the "season" comes to an end. There will still be a few 'Fests on the weekends. Lagunitas brewing Co. has announced it is laying off 100 of its 900 employees across all of its production and office facilities. The Heineken-owned brewer has only cited the need to stay competitive in a growing craft beer market. Details in the Chicago Tribune...

Cider Preview: Rekorderlig Hård Äpple
I’ve headed back to the fridge to pop another brew that has been sent to me by the brewer for comment. Kind of needing it after having to cancel plans and stay home and watch a sick child. I never knew you could get “tonsil stones”. This comes to us from Rekorderlig, a brand of... Read more »
