Chicago Craft Beer Week, February 3 - 6

Chicago Craft Beer Week, February 3 - 6
At the time of this writing, we have learned that Figure Eight Brewing of Valparaiso is calling it quits. They had a ten-year run, but the management have announced on their Facebook page that they will be moving on to "new adventures." Figure Eight's last day of operation will be Saturday, February 8 (some kind of symmetry there). I'm continuing to compile some last-minute Super Bowl events, and then will be focusing in Valentine's weekend. Stay tuned, and check back often...

Chicago Craft Beer Week, January 20-23
My hosting site that was serving up the dates from my Google Calendar has gone wonky. I am placing text for the last day of this period at the bottom:

Phase Three Taking Over Lake Zurich

The big news as this article's writing: Phase Three Brewing Co., the current buzz beer maker in Chicago, is taking over operation of Lake Zurich Brewing. Phase Three had been contract brewing its trendy hazy IPAs at Lake Zurich, 932 Donata Ct. According to Tribune coverage by Josh Noel, Phase Three had been selling more beers, while Lake Zurich's sales were declining. Lake Zurich has posted a farewell to the Facebook page, announcing that their final weekend of operation is January 17-19. The brewery had originally opened as Black Belt Brewery, the first beermaker in the village, in 2016. It shortly closed and was taken over by Lake Zurich in 2018. The brewery is expected to reopen as Phase Three in the spring...

Chicago Craft Beer Week Highlights, Sunday May 19

It's kind of a marathon for me, keeping up with at least a few selected CCBW events, preferring local brews and hard-to-find tappings. Maybe I'll even get to one of these. I suppose we'll put these highlights first: a chance to party at a Cubs game with no Bud Light in sight...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, Feb. 15 - 17

Friday, Feb. 15

5:30 pm ♦ Firkin Friday Cask Tapping: Arcadia Imperial Stout The Bavarian Lodge, 1800 Ogden Ave, Lisle, IL (630) 241-4701 For this week's Firkin Friday feature, we're happy to present Arcadia Imperial Stout (8.4% abv). Black as coal in color, this cask conditioned Stout has a velvety rich and sweet malt aroma. A dense brown head gives way to a big, full-bodied and creamy texture that has flavors of roasted coffee and black currants, blending perfectly with the malt. A generous amount of hops add balance and complexity to this extraordinary stout (80 IBU). This stout is absolutely gorgeous in this special cask-conditioned format. The cask will be tapped at approximately 5:30 pm at the bar. Its delicious contents will be available to everyone in both the restaurant and pub until the firkin runs dry. First come, first served...
