Chicago Week in Craft Beer, March 9-12

Chicago Week in Craft Beer, March 9-12
Wednesday Update: As you've no doubt heard, many St. Patrick's events have been cancelled owing to concerns over the COVID-19 virus.  I have not yet heard of any cancellations for these events, but when I do, I will update this page as fast as I can. Venue managers; if you are cancelling or altering your weekend festivities, please let me know, too! While the weekend of St. Patrick's Day celebrations is coming up, the schedule for these weekdays is pretty standards. I am updating these calendars as I find more events, so keep checking in! I am trying to "qualify" St. Patrick's events by checking for those that offer something better than just green beer. And there may just be more events for 312 Day, sponsored by Goose Island for its namesake beer. And I haven't seen anything for Pi Day (3/14) yet, but I'll have an eye out. At the date of this posting, Brewbound reports that Craftworks Holdings has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Craftworks is the parent company of the Rock Bottom brewpubs, and of Gordon Biersch, Old Chicago and Logan's Roadhouse. The company has already closed 37 restaurants in New York, Virginia, Maryland, California, Arizona, Texas, Idaho, Hawaii, Mississippi and Washington, D.C. They have 77 franchise loctions that are not part of the proceeding, and its 261 company-owned outlets will operate as usual for now. Rock Bottom has four brewpub restaurants in the Chicago area. Some of its past brewers include Tim Marshall, who co-founded Solemn Oath, and Pete Crowley, who went on the start Haymarket. The Gordon Biersch operation makes several contract beers for the Trader Joe's chain...

Chicago Craft Beer Week, January 13-16

Chicago Craft Beer Week, January 13-16
I'm coming up to my 10th Anniversary of blogging about Chicago beer at the Chicago Now portal! My first post was in October of 2010, but I had imported a few posts dated earlier from my previous blog at Examiner.com, which nobody has missed. I've hit somewhere over 1,200 posts. The number is indefinite, because I've deleted a lot of my older calendar articles. I should let them be, because having more posts gives me more weight in Google search results, but my links to older events have popped up on the infinite scroll of ChicagoNow stories and ads. I'd consider going solo, but that would mean paying for web hosting by serving just as many ads. But you can't bet I'll never allow that "How to empty your bowels" ad I just saw. I've made one little change in my calendar listings for the new year: at the end of the establishment address for each event, there's now a "Folded Map" emoji instead of a "globe." Click on it to be taken to a Google Maps page of that place. I'd thought the map was more self-explanatory, but looking at it now, it might be hard to figure out what it is. And the "folded map" was only added to Unicode recently, so it might not show up on some older operating systems. If you don't see it, let me know! I wouldn't mind learning more programming to fix an issue...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, April 27-29

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, April 27-29

The trademark contention between Ravinia Brewing Co. and the Ravinia Festival Association may be ending. The beer company has posted a notice that they would agree to a proposal by the festival organizers that would let them keep their name without paying a royalty, provided they emphasize the words "Brewing Company" in their logo and trade dress...
