Launch Party Binnys South Loop, 1132 S Jefferson St, Chicago On the 10-year anniversary of its disappearance, Baderbräu Chicago Pilsener, Chicago’s landmark “first craft beer,” returns with its original recipe in time for CCBW. The team responsible for Baderbräu’s return, Baderbrau Brewing Company, has spent a two-year journey tracking down the original master brewer Douglas Babcock, rediscovering the original recipe and proprietary yeast strain, and working with brewing partner Argus Brewery to perfect the flavor–all to save this historic Chicago beer from being lost. Brewers from around the world received awards from an elite international panel of judges in the 2012 Brewers Association World Beer Cup this past Saturday. Joe Formanek wins Sam Adams LongShot

Another area resident has been named a winner of Samuel Adams LongShot homebrewing competition. Joe Formanek of Bolingbrook won for his Russian Imperial Stout, which will be “brewed up” and offered next year as part of the 2012 LongShot six-pack. Joe is a member of the Urban Knaves of Grain, a hombrew club based in the western suburbs.He tried out homebrewing while pursuing a B.S. in Microbiology at the University of Minnesota, according to the Midwest Homebrewer of the Year site. In 1993, he founded the Boneyard Union of Zymurgical Zealots (BUZZ) in Champaign while studying at the University of Illinois...
