It's nice to get a little recognition for one's efforts. I had an email last month from someone who was visiting downtown Chicago and wanted to know of some good beer places nearby. I told "Haymarket, Adams Street, Gino's, etc." Later he wrote back to say he spent plenty of time ranging around downtown, and that he was from Australia and on his way to a relative's wedding in Michigan. He had also, of course, had his first encounter with deep-dish pizza.
Then last weekend, I was beating the heat at Orange & Brew, one of my locals, and another another patron recognized me from the grungy photo in the corner. He was a dental student at Midwestern University, and made plenty of use of my schedules of events. I just happen to have a regular dental student at Midwestern's dental practice for my teeth, who also enjoys learning about beer in the area from me. When she hasn't stuck pointy things in my mouth.
This weekend, the USA's FIFA Women's World Cup team is on the verge of yet another championship. The finals match is Sunday, in Lyon, France, at 5:00 pm over there. That's 10 am over here, and I'm dropping in the good beer venues that will be open for it on Sunday morning!
