Last week, we learned that Toppling Goliath Brews of Decorah, Iowa, one of the country's hottest new breweries, is now being distributed in Illinois. A few samplings have already occurred in our area, and now Binny's will have their American Pale Ale, Pseudo Sue, in four-packs on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Quantities are limited, but other retailers should be getting in a supply, and more beers will no doubt follow.
This weekend sees another brewery coming into the Chicago market. Odell Brewing Co., from the brewing mecca of Ft. Collins, CO, arrives with a series of tastings and tappings, including an appearance by founders Doug and Wynne Odell, at Binny's in Lincoln Park on Monday, Feb. 6. The Odells started the brewery in 1989, and has a large portfolio of beers, most popular of which is a Scotch Ale, 90 Schilling. The brewery is now majority-owned by its employees in the form of an ESOP.
And Mikerphone Brewing, which has client brewed at several locations, is close to opening a place of their own in Elk Grove Village, trailing Hubbard's Cave by probably just a few permits and feet of plumbing.
