The brewery planted a hop plant on their back patio which has grown a bit and started producing hops. With it being just one plant and not a huge amount of hops, they decided to make ONE firkin of beer with the ingredients they had, and are giving the one and only keg to Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap. The beer is a base beer of their Apex Predator, a saison farmhouse ale, and they added the fresh hops to it.

7:00 pm ♦ Hibernation Celebration
BuckleDown Brewing, 8700 W 47th St, Lyons, IL (708) 777-1842
Each year Monarch butterflies migrate by the millions to the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico where they arrive by November. Some travel more than 3,000 miles. The eastern population of North America’s Monarchs overwinters in the same 11 to 12 mountain areas in the States of Mexico and Michoacan from October to late March. No individual butterfly completes the entire round trip; female monarchs lay eggs for the next generation during the northward migration and at least five generations are involved in the annual cycle. Monarchs roost for the winter in oyamel fir forests at an elevation of 2,400 to 3,600 meters (nearly 2 miles above sea level). The mountain hillsides of oyamel forest provide an ideal microclimate for the butterflies.
Come join our community to celebrate the mysterious migration of the Monarch butterfly with local photography by Eric Rejman, a special release of BuckleDown Brewing beer, live music by Walsher Clemons and Paul Moody, food, and free seeds to attract Monarchs next spring! I will also premiere to the public an 18,000 photo timelapse of a Monarch caterpillar's metamorphosis.
8:00 pm ♦ Bell's 30th Anniversary keg tapping!
Beer Geeks, 3030 45th St., Highland, IN (219) 513-9795
Join us for a special keg tapping of Bell's Brewery's 30th Anniversary Imperial Stout
In 1985, Larry Bell set out on a quest for better beer with his 15-gallon soup pot.
Thirty years later, we will release our 30th Anniversary Ale.
An American Imperial Stout, Bell's 30th Anniversary Ale is also a nod to another beer and one of the earliest examples of the style released here in the United States, Bell's Expedition Stout. Flavors of dark chocolate and fruit meld to create a full-bodied, roasty stout. A fair amount of Polaris hops lend a brightness and a nice character that will help carry the beer in its early stages making it incredibly drinkable and interesting. Malt characteristics will continue to develop over time, so that beer drinkers who choose to cellar it can enjoy the beer for years to come.
