In the wake of Dark Lord Day, we have even more events coming up this week, and this weekend. See below, and check my Facebook fan page for breaking news!
Monday, April 27
11:00 am ♦ King's Day / La Trappe on Tap
The Olympic Tavern, 2327 N. Main St., Rockford, IL (815) 962-8758
Every year since 1890 the entirety of The Netherlands has broken out in a flood of orange—the national color—to celebrate the Queen. Known as Koninginnedag in Holland, it's a day of celebration, flea markets and, of course, Dutch beer!
In 2013, Queen Beatrix abdicated to her son the Prince (now King) Willem-Alexander, so in 2014 the Netherlands will celebrate King's Day for the first time in more than 130 years! On this one day a year, Dutch citizens are allowed to have open sales in the streets—flea markets—without permits or taxes. The result is that most people are either buying or selling, everyone is outside and everyone is in the mood to party. Artisanal Imports would like to keep the party going on this side of the Atlantic. Join us in celebration of Koninginnedag and the fantastic beers of Holland!
We will be tapping a keg of La Trappe Witbier (and maybe a few other Dutch specialties) at 11am. La Trappe is one of only ten Trappist breweries in the world allowed to carry the logo “Authentic Trappist Product”. This logo guarantees authenticity, recipe, tradition and, in the case of La Trappe, a thriving working relationship between monastery and brewery. These world-class beers have been brewed at the Cistercian Abbey of Onze Lieve Vrouw van Koningshoeven since 1884.

Hardcore Craft Beer will be hosting another bottle share at Porter's Pub at Bowes Creek. This is a chance for beer enthusiasts and newcomers alike to share beers from the depths of cellars all the way to the forefronts of store coolers. Don't worry if you don't have a super rare bottle or something that was squandered away in the depths of a sunken vessel. This is about sharing bottles of beer, stories and knowledge.
This is an open event and anything is welcome. Bring a bottle, or couple of bottles (note: that's 1-3, not a case!) to open and share, mingle with others, and have a good time. Grab something from your beer cellar or something interesting from the store that you've been wanting to try.
There is no cost or cover to attend the event, but we ask as a courtesy to our host venue that you order an appetizer, one of the specials, other food or a beer from the bar. Just a way to say thank you for the use of the space.
A few things to keep in mind:
• Bring a bottle (or COUPLE).
• Do not worry about what bottles to bring and do not be intimidated by other "big" bottles that people might come with. Bring what you enjoy or what YOU feel is special.
• Share and Enjoy.
• Any bottle on the table is fair game.
• Don't over pour yourself a beer. Just take a few ounces, leave some for others. Don't Sweem the beer.
• Relax, have a good time, and be responsible.
