Chicago Craft Beer Events, January 19-22
WBEZ's Beer Podcast is at Lagunitas this week.

Headquarters Beercade held its first #BrewAndA Wednesday afternoon, with Cleetus Friedman, Chicago chef and collaboration brewer. This Wednesday, January 21, I will be the second guest at this little event. The chat starts at 1:00 pm CST. If anyone can break the internet, it'd probably be me.

KBS Early Notice: Founders Brewing Co. Co. has announced the details of the 2015 release of their Kentucky Breakfast Stout. First, KBS will be on tap at locations around Grand Rapids during March 9-13. The bottle release will be held March 10-14 at Founders Tap House, 235 Grandville Ave. SW,
Grand Rapids. You will be able to pick up to two 4-packs by reserving a pickup time starting at 10 am Central Time on February 14. Details at the kbsweek.com web page. The taproom will also KBS on tap March 14. Finally, KBS will go on sale at retail accounts, including Chicago, on March 30.

Monday, January 19

12:00 pm ♦ Solemn Oath Telegraph Release

We’ll be releasing The Telegraph, our Strong Scotch Ale, in bombers for the very first time. Expect rich, chewy malt complexity with layers of caramel, dried fruit and nuts balanced by a subtle earthy hop presence. This one is full-bodied and has a prominent alcohol warmth. Good for those cold, winter nights.

4:00 pm ♦ 1,000th Grand Beer Tapping

Come down and support Gammon Coach House as they tap their 1,000th Beer on Tap! Starting at 4 p.m., we will be tapping a firkin of Bell's Special Double Cream Stout as their 1000th Grand Beer! Available while supplies last. Also on tap: Amber Ale, and throughout the week, Expedition Stout and Double Cream Stout Nitro will make an appearance.

6:00 - 10:00 pm ♦ CHIRP Radio 5th Anniversary at Lula Cafe

CHIRP Radio and Lula Café, two Chicago institutions known for their support of local music and artists, are pairing up this January to celebrate the independent-minded radio station's fifth anniversary online, and the FCC's recent decision to award the outlet a broadcast license for 107.1FM.
The Chicago Music Dinner will feature a delicious three-course meal prepared by Lula chef Jason Hammel, paired with beers from Half Acre Beer Co. Co. Cocktail hour begins at 6pm, with dinner following at 7.
Throughout the evening, CHIRP DJs will spin a mix of Chicago music, past and present, and diners won't leave empty-handed: each place setting will include a limited edition local music mix CD curated by CHIRP. A silent auction will give attendees the chance to enjoy and bid on framed concert posters created by some of the city's top poster artists.
Tickets for the Chicago Music Dinner are available through Brown Paper Tickets at $65, including tax, gratuity, and beer pairings.

New Belgium Salted Chocolate Imperial Stout: This collaboration with Perennial Artisan Ales pairs two favorites: chocolate and beer. Dessert is best poured. And the brewers at Perennial agree. So for our next Lips of Faith release we dreamt up a beer that would bring together chocolate sweetness, Belgian yeast, deeply roasted malts and just the right shake of salt to pour a creamy stout worthy of a cherry on top.

This dinner is quite the rare find as the Goose Island brews offered sell out on retail shelves in a matter of minutes. SideDoor’s Beverage Director Jeff Van Der Tuuk was able to snag a larger supply than most in Chicago, and is offering guests pours of each limited-time brew paired with a menu created by Chef Brian Kwak. This is a great opportunity for beer enthusiasts to revel in craft beer rareness! Call for information and reservations.
Beers to be paired include 2014 Lilith Pomegranate Berlinerweiss, 2014 Madame Rose Belgian Style Brown Ale, and a dessert flight of 2014 Bourbon County Coffee, Bourbon County Proprietors, and Bourbon County Barleywine.

High Noon Saloon hosts Brooklyn, New York’s Sixpoint Brewery for a tap takeover/release party. The event features the first Chicago tapping of two new beers from the brewery’s Cycliquids series: this year’s release of Hi-Res (Triple IPA) and the newest beer in the series, Beast Mode (American Porter). Other limited beers on offer include Global Warmer (Imperial Red Ale), a Cycliquids series winter seasonal. Three year-rounds will also be tapped: Bengali (West Coast-Style IPA), The Crisp (Czech-Style Pilsner) and Resin (Double IPA).

Celebrate Rasputin’s birthday with North Coast Brewing Co. Co. and The Bar on Buena. The North Coast and BOB crew will don beards and tap a barrel of North Coast Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout! Guests can fault their whiskers (real or fake!) and raise a glass to that bearded badass Grigori Rasputin. He died hard, but lived harder.
The BOB will also be giving prizes to the hairiest and be-bearded in attendance. If you’re follicularly fortunate and think you’ve got what it takes, step on up! Beardless? Fret not. The BOB will also have whiskers on hand for all to enjoy.
