Hey, I thought things would be quiet this weekend because all the brewers would out attending, judging or pouring at the Great American Beer Festival. Instead, there's a lot to do for those of us who are left behind.
Friday, October 3
Half Acre Sticky Fat Release
Half Acre Beer Co., 4257 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago (773) 248-4038
Once a year, cones grow plump, the yard boss readies his men, and brewers across the country await their delivery of whole cone, wet hops. At the same time, the farmers that make our sticky dreams possible, sharpen their stakes against the historic foe - a bear we've come to know as Sticky Fat.
We brew a beer in honor of this giant, to keep his story fresh. This year we brewed with 300 pounds of Chinook hops, soaking wet and straight from our northern friends in Michigan. Sticky Fat American Dark Ale is brown as the bear's hind quarters, and laced with piney, resinous hop character, backed up by plunging levels of chocolate and roast. Swing by and tip one back, a toast to all the things that keep us on our toes. 22 ounce bottle: $8.99, 64 ounce growler refill: $18, 32 ounce howler refill: $10, 16 ounce pour: $6
