Aragon Ballroom, 1106 W. Lawrence Ave., Chicago
Chicago’s very own BeerHoptacular, a celebration of the art of craft brewing, will welcome beer enthusiasts for its fifth year on Friday, October 10 and Saturday, October 11, 2014. In commemoration of its fifth year of bringing together the finest craft breweries both in Chicago and from across the country, the locally-produced event will return to Chicago’s historic Aragon Ballroom where the first BeerHoptacular was held in 2010. Since its founding, BeerHoptacular has introduced Chicagoans to hundreds of innovative, rare and celebrated craft beers, and the 2014 event will continue that tradition, hosting approximately 150 brews from approximately 60 breweries.
Returning to BeerHoptacular in 2014 will be the BeerHop Derby, a pinewood derby-inspired competition in which cars are crafted by breweries from beer cans and bottles, and the fifth Homebrew Challenge, judged by professional brewers and recognized local beer dignitaries. This year BeerHoptacular proudly adds a new competition, the BeardHoptacular, which will pit facial-hair-wearing beer lovers against each other for the chance to win prizes and a year of bragging rights. The historic Aragon Ballroom and its unique layout will enable BeerHoptacular organizers to add other new features to the event’s 5th year, including increased food offerings for guests at a Food Pavilion, set up in the venue’s adjacent parking lot. There will be a separate VIP area, accessible only by VIP ticket holders, offering specialty beers and spirits not available throughout the event, appetizers and a private lounge overlooking the ballroom and stage.
There will be three sessions: Friday, October 10 from 6:30-10:00 PM and Saturday, October 11 from 1:00-4:30 PM and 6:30-10:00 PM.
There are three tasting sessions: Friday at 8:30 pm, and Saturday starting at 1:00 pm or 6:30 pm. Tickets are $45 general admission, and $85 for VIP (separate VIP area with special beers and spirits). Available through the Beer Hoptacular site.
Tickets can also be purchased in advance with no service charge at The Vic Theatre Box Office (3145 North Sheffield in Chicago) between the hours of noon and 5:00pm Monday through Saturday.
