Just a word of warning, that after the Labor Day weekend, I may be going on another hiatus. Seems I suddenly have some freelance work lined up, and I promised someone a book proposal back in April that still needs to be written (guess what it's about). Craft beer? Chicago?
Friday, August 22
Buddy Brew Launch
Buddy Guy's Legends, 700 S. Wabash Ave., Chicago (312) 427-1190
In the future, everybody will be famous for 15 minutes and have a beer named after them. Chicago Beer Company is launching its collaboration with blues giant Buddy Guy: Buddy Brew, "The Damn Right beer," at Legends. This is a Belgian Style Wheat Ale brewed with honey and spices. So already they're 15 jumps ahead of Landshark lager.
12:00 pm ♦ Half Acre Heyoka Release
Half Acre Beer Company Tap Room, 4255 N Lincoln Ave., Chicago (773) 248-4038
Last year we started canning beers seasonally - a permanent revolving door of choices. All last winter we brewed Heyoka India Pale Ale. This Friday, Heyoka will be available for a short time, in the Tap Room or for growlers to-go. This batch was brewed to shake off the cob webs, to reacquaint ourselves, and all of you, to this strong-armed shot of seasonal coercion. Cans will not be returning until later in September, once Akari is ready to sit back for a spell. When squaring off with a pint of Heyoka you can expect classic, American hop flavors pushed to tilt, mounted fitfully atop pale malts. Please note: this batch is draft only

11:00 am - 7:00 pm ♦ Bucktown Arts Fest
Senior Citizens Memorial Park, 2300 N. Oakley, Chicago
The Bucktown Arts Fest is a free to the public, non-profit, all volunteer-run neighborhood celebration of the arts.
The fest, now in its 29th year, has always been known for the great art represented and sold by nearly 200 participating artists. But it’s also developing a reputation for bringing the art of craft beer into the beer tent.
Besides the standard choice of Summit Summer Ale, which will be available all weekend, there will also be a rotating list of more than 20 specialty brews. These are beers that you don’t normally see at summer festivals, provided by the beer experts at Lakeshore Beverage.
Just like last year, the Bucktown Arts Fest has one barrel of each, so once a certain beer runs out, it won’t be back. The craft beer starts flowing at 1 p.m. on Saturday when the first two specialty barrels are tapped. After each runs dry, another specialty beer takes its place.
A few highlights (these are just a sample of what will be on tap each day and not necessarily in order):
Saturday, August 23
Ale Syndicate du Sable Belgian Ale, Founders Double Trouble IIPA, Rubaeus Raspberry Ale, Goose Island The Ogden Belgian Tripel, Moody Tongue Crushed Green Coriander Wit, Uinta Dubhe Black IPA
