Hey, I'm headed to a wedding for one of my nieces this weekend, so I may accidentally skimp over one of your favorite events (you can always email me with details. And… oh, all right, I'll let on: I will be appearing on the debut episode of SPIKE TV's new reality cooking competition, Frankenfood. I don't know how much of my adventure there will make the final cut, but I will be in the first episode, "Chicago Southside," airing Sunday, May 22, at 9:00 pm. Just so her future in-laws will know what kind of family their darling boy is marrying into.

Franklin Tap is calling all soccer fans, craft brew lovers and patriots alike for a "Red, White and Bell's" Team USA World Cup kickoff party. On Monday cheer on Team USA as they bid in their first game against Ghana. Bell's brewery representative Monica Mooney will hand out beers samples and swag from the Michigan craft brewery starting at 4 p.m. Franklin Tap will show the game against Ghana, with sound, at 5 p.m. on 11 HDTVs.
Five of Bell's draught brews will be featured for $5 each: Oberon Wheat Ale 5.8% 16oz; Two Hearted American IPA 7% 16oz; Mercurial Belgian-Style Session Ale 4.8% 16oz; Amber American Amber Ale 5.8% 16oz; Third Coast American Pale Ale 4.8% 16oz. Franklin Tap's full menu (bar snacks, soup, salads, wraps, sandwiches, burgers and more) will be available for purchase.

Join us for an evening featuring North Coast Brewing Co., a pioneer in the craft beer movement, which opened in 1988 as a local brewpub in Fort Bragg, CA. Our Executive Chefs will pair a custom four course menu with North Coast's most popular brews. The evening begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m. with passed appetizers, followed by the seated dinner at 7:00 p.m. The event is priced at $50.00 per person, plus tax (gratuity not included). This double black as night IPA is too massive for one brewery's efforts. Blakkr took the trinity of Real Ale, Surly, and Three Floyds to actualize this crushing ale. Cheers. This specific version was brewed at Three Floyds and available on tap and in 22 oz bomber bottles. For other versions, see Surly and Real Ale databases.

Bell's Bull in a China Shop Barleywine
The Bull in a China Shop pours a very cloudy dark bronze red with a beige head that lasts a long while. The aroma is cereal, grape and bread. The flavor is a nicely balanced fresh bread, grape and pine.

4:00 pm - 1:00 am ♦ Smylie Brothers Opens in Evanston

The opening has been postponed to Tuesday, June 24, due to building issues. It happens in the restuarant trade.
Smylie Brothers Brewing Company will open with dinner service Tuesday through Sunday with brunch and lunch services added later in the year. The restaurant brings craft beer, Texas-style barbecue, wood-fired pizza, and Midwestern comfort food to downtown Evanston.
Head brewer Brad Pulver to deliver a fresh take on old-world styles. The brewpub will have twenty-four taps with eight featuring a rotation of Smylie Brothers beers, plus local, Midwestern and Great Lakes area brews. Expect to find Smylie's signature beer, a California Common, and a Belgian brew always on tap. Growlers will be available.
Executive Chef Grant Carey promises an eclectic mix of regional American cuisine. From Midwestern comfort food to the Smylie family's secret Texas style barbecue recipes, the Smylie Brothers menu will compliment the brewpub's beers and even use ingredients straight from the brewery.
Fans who have been anxiously awaiting Smylie Brothers' opening can look for a chance to sample what is to come with some pre-opening events. Details will be shared on Smylie Brothers' website and social media feeds Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

The Wizard of Oz is a transcendental tale that somehow relates to each and everyone of us. But there's more to this story than lions, and tigers and bears. There's even Chicago.
On this 115th anniversary of the story and the 75th anniversary of the movie, join us for a special evening that features a conversation about how L. Frank Baum's life and Chicago played a role in the story. Local beer makers, Ale Syndicate, open their doors for a special preview of their new brewery and also whip up two magical brews inspired by the Wizard of Oz available ONLY at this event. Sheffield's provides some Kansas-inspired BBQ nibbles.
Tickets are $25 through Eventbrite, and include Public preview to Ale Syndicate's new brewery, a welcome beer, two samples of Ale Syndicate Oz-inspired beers, a conclusion beer, light appetizers, loads of history.
A special collaboration between Tales, Taverns & Towns, Ale Syndicate, and Sheffield's Chicago.

It's that time again, for the Beer House "Chicagoland Tap Takeover".....TAP THIS TWICE! 22 local breweries will be taking over the taps and the conversation! Come in to try their beer and mingle with some very talented people! At 8:00 pm we'll have live music with Skirt Steak!

7:00 pm ♦ Bourbon County Stout Randall Night
The Beer Market, 641 E. Boughton Rd., Ste. 110, Bolingbrook, IL
The Beer Market in Bolingbrook, along with Goose Island and, will have a special tapping of Goose Island's renowned Bourbon County Stout. We will be infusing the beer with cacao nibs, toasted vanilla, graham flower and honey malt, to make a "S'more" version since the summer bonfire season is kicking in gear! A Goose Island rep will be on-hand, and the folks from will be here to talk about their beer cellar management app and how you can build your own beer cellar.

7:00 - 9:00 pm ♦ Perfect Pairings at Horseshoe Casino

Horseshoe Casino's esteemed Food and Beverage team will walk guests through this month's "Grilling" theme which includes different wines/beers each paired with a delicious signature dish. Guests will have the opportunity to speak with Horseshoe's own Executive Chef Mark Angeles and learn tips and tricks for pairing wine with exquisite food at home. Ticket price is $40.00 for the general public, spots can be reserved here.
(Most of the menu offers pairings with wine, but one entree is paired with Goose Island 312, The Ogden, & Endless IPA).
