The Bar on Buena, 910 W. Buena Ave, Chicago 773-525-8665
The Bar on Buena celebrates the launch of the latest homebrewer release, The Life Pursuit, with Middle Brow Beer Co. All proceeds from this release will go to charity—it’s a good beer for a good cause!
Matt Holley, resident of the Buena Park neighborhood and frequenter of The Bar on Buena, has been homebrewing for nearly five years and is the winner of Middle Brow’s Homebrewer contest, in which hopeful brewing enthusiasts enter their version of a particular beer style. The winning beer is selected by Middle Brow owners and a panel of experts and put into limited production for the Chicago market via Middle Brow.
Brewer Matt Holley tackled a different saison for every season in 2012. This was his take on a saison d’hiver. He lowered the ABV a pinch (6.6%), mellowed out the dark malt using jaggery and brown sugars, vanilla and cinnamon to subtly compliment the yeast profile.

Delilah’s hosts its Sixteenth annual vintage beer festival. More than one hundred beers, primarily strong ales, barrel aged beers and live beers, from over 50 breweries will be tasted – side by side – many in multiple vintages.
Regionally, Three Floyds, Goose Island, Half Acre, Founders, Bell’s & Lakefront Brewing will be represented, and many of these brewers will be in attendance.
Strong ales have been traditionally brewed during and for the winter and early spring months and are quite suitable for aging – often being brewed a year before release. Many of the ales for this tasting will be sampled in vintage with a few vintage verticals and there will be an emphasis on barrel aged beers. We’ll also be featuring J.W. Lees Harvest Ale from the 1993 vintage, there will be a King & Barnes Festive Ale from 1998 plus ten vintages of Sierra Nevada’s Bigfoot Barley Wine.
A unique experience to sample all these strong beers together – along with vintage dated brews including: Anchor Old Foghorn, Avery Hog Heaven, Thomas Hardy’s Ale, Harvey’s Elizabethan Ale, Orkney Skull Splitter, Portland Adam Barley Wine, Dogfish Head Immort Ale, Het Anker Lucifer Ale, Unibroue Trois Pistoles & La Fin Du Monde, Malheur Millennium, Capitol Blonde Dopplebock (multiple vintages), Two Brothers Bare Tree Weiss Wine, Maredsous 10 Triple, EKU 28, Grain d'Orge Belzebuth, Rogue Old Crusty and Young’s Old Nick.
