Chicago Craft Beer Events, November 4-7

Chicago Craft Beer Events, November 4-7
This guilty pleasure will be featured at a "Brew & View" with Solemn Oath and Dark Horse! I picked this photo rather than the bland poster to offer a look at the movie's other stars, Josh Brolin & Sherilyn Fenn.

Looks like the main theme of this week is a new round of Bell's sampling, including Wheat Love, a Barley Wine with eight different kinds of wheat making up 55% of its malt bill; in its first appearance since 2005. You have my recommendation to check it out.

And tickets are still available for the Beer Hoptacular, this Friday and Saturday at the Lacuna Artist Loft, 2150 S. Canalport Ave. $45 gets a punch card for 30 tastings from among 150 craft beers by 60 brewers. Sessions are 6:00 pm Friday, and 12:30 and 6:00 pm Saturday, available through etix.com.
I mention this because Lacuna is a cool space, as well as the office of fellow CN blogger, entertianment lawyer and sports maven Exavier Pope. But neither of us can be there, because our ChicagoNow team will be defending our title as trivia kings of Chicago Media at the Asian-American Journalists Association's 2013 Trivia Bowl. Since I didn't make the cut for Jeopardy's Decades tournament, so I will wanting to put a hurt on someone, then have a few beers.

4:00 pm ♦ Thursday Tapping at Tribes Alehouse Tinley
The Tribes Alehouse, 9501 W. 171st St., Tinley Park, IL (708) 966-2051
De Proef & Cigar City Tropical Tripel (9.50%). ABV This collaborative beer from De Proef and Cigar City definitely veers a fair distance from an ordinary Belgian tripel, finding its conceptual kernel as a “peaches-and-cream tripel.” While brewed with Belgian candi sugar and a traditional Trappist yeast strain, the recipe also adds a dose of lactose for additional mouthfeel (the “cream”) and finishes up with dried peaches. A Brux III strain of Brettanomyces and assertive hop additions add to the tropical angle, while further contributions of toasted coconut and medium toasted oak appear as well. Actually, it may make sense to just forget we said anything about this as being a tripel in the first place.

Niche Restaurant, 14 S. 3rd St., Geneva, IL 630-262-1000
Pipeworks Brewing Company is a microbrewery opened in January 2012 by founders Beejay Oslon and Gerrit Lewis. Pipeworks differs from other microbreweries in that they brew their beers entirely as a constant series of 'one off' beers that are aimed specifically to the niche market of beer connoisseurs. The brewery's stated goal is to release a new beer every week. This approach has given the brewery and its beers somewhat of a cult status among beer enthusiasts, with its offerings selling out relatively quickly. Five beers, Four courses, $70/person

9:00 pm ♦ Thrashin' at Logan Theatre
The Logan Theatre, 2646 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago 773-342-5555
Quoting from the Solemn Oath website:
Much like the sex life you wish you had, the 1986 movie Thrashin' was hot, reckless, and totally insane. We're not going to say Pamela Gidley was the youth crush of several members of this organization, but there were definitely posters. Posters most likely purchased at Spencer's. Wow, remember that place? What a waste of time and money perusing around that place was.
Anyway, SOB and the mofos out at Dark Horse are finally teaming up for an event. Naturally, we came together with Logan Theatre and decided to show the skateboard cult flick that launched Josh Brolin's career (nobody remembers you in the Goonies dude). Three SOBs and three Dark Horse brews on tap.
