Chicago Halloween Week Craft Beer Events

Once again, extra time at my seasonal freelance job is keeping me from searching out as many events as I normally do. It does seem that some places will hold their Halloween events on the follwoing weekend, so watch out for my next update!

Monday, October 28

4:00 pm ♦ Flossmoor Station Black IPA Tapping
Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery, 1035 Sterling Ave., Flossmoor, IL (708) 957-BREW
ABV: 8.7%, IBU: 100. This Black IPA has a malt bill similar to an double IPA with a small percentage of Midnight Wheat to give it its color. Hop profile ranges from piney to citrus flavors and aroma. You will enjoy the fruits of this 'Black Tree' (Schwartzbaum means Black Tree in German). Tapping at 5 pm for Mug Club Members, 6 pm for the general public.
This will be brewers Bjorn and Bill's last tapping at Flossmoor Station. Both have accepted brewing positions at Goose Island Fulton Street. Their last day will be Friday, November 1st. Please stop and wish them well in their new endeavor!

6:00 - 8:00 pm ♦ BeerHoptacular Pre-Party

The Beer Bistro will host a BeerHoptacular pre-party: everyone who attends will receive a complimentary pint of Founders Brewing Co. Pale IPA, along with the opportunity to win BeerHoptacular swag and tickets to the event, being held November 8 & 9 at Lacuna Artist Lofts in Pilsen. The Beer Bistro is owned and operated by one of the BeerHoptacular Homebrew Competition judges, Bob McDermott (no relation).

Fountainhead hosts its third annual Halloween event: The Great Punk'n Party! Fountainhead will be tapping Southern Tier Pumking and Uinta Punk'n, pouring them through pumpkins lined up on the bar. Grab a Halloween-style beer and carve some pumpkins while jammin' to a punk rock playlist (Fountainhead reserves the right to take back any carving tools after a few of these punk'n brews!). Get a pumpkin and a pumpkin poured beer for $15. Chef Cleetus Friedman has added some fall-inspired dishes to the new fall menu like the Pretzel Crusted Salmon and Beer Braised Brisket to compliment the amazing beer selection.

Dinner featuring Tyranena Brewing, featuring a tapping of Down & Dirty Chocolate Oatmeal Stout aged in rye whiskey barrels. Only 5 kegs were made of this very rare beer, 2 kegs were sent to Illinois, Wild Monk got one of them. Other beer pairings include Rocky’s Revenge, Bitter Woman, and Chief Blackhawk Porter

6:00 pm ♦ Victory Party at The Bar on Buena

The Bar on Buena won Stone's Most Bitter Bar contest for the Chicago area for the second year in a row—and now it's time to celebrate! In honor of this victory, friendly neighborhood Stone regional rep Aaron Tyrell and new Chicago sales rep Jill Joyce will be on hand to present a special plaque commemorating this feat.
The BOB will be tapping Stone's latest collaboration, 10 Barrel/Blue Jacket/Stone Suede Imperial Porter at 6 p.m. and the plaque presentation will take place at 8 p.m. Be one of the first in Chicago to taste the new brew and celebrate The BOB's success as the Most Bitter Bar in the Chicago area!
Want to get started early? Sublimely Self Righteous Ale and Ruination IPA will be available beginning at 4 p.m. and continue to flow throughout the evening. Beers will start at $6 a glass with a special flight of all three Stone brews for $8.

6:00 - 9:30 pm ♦ Nature on Tap
The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, 2430 N. Cannon Dr. Chicago (773) 755-5100
The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum – including the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven – goes adults-only for this fun evening event entitled Nature on Tap. It's a unique chance to stroll around the museum with no kids in sight and a cash bar serving local beer and wine. Featured breweries include Finch's, Revolution, 5 Rabbit, Metropolitan Brewing and Two Brothers. As you meander through the evening, check out the current and ongoing exhibits, marvel at the wonders inside the Istock Butterfly Haven, or test your science and nature knowledge in a trivia game. The winning trivia team even will be awarded the coveted Golden Cockroach trophy. Cost is free to Museum members, $10 for non-members, and includes access to all exhibits, crafty projects and participation in the trivia challenge. Tickets available at the Museum's Events page.

To celebrate National Pizza Month this October, every Tuesday, Municipal will offer a personal pizza and a select beer for only $10. Pizza selections will include Veggie, Five-Cheese, Buffalo Chicken, and Hawaiian. Beers will include Lakefront New Grist, Innis and Gunn, Pilsner Urquell, and New Belgium Ranger IPA.

De Struise Cuvée Delphine (13.00% ABV). A limited bottling of the Black Albert aged in Four Roses Bourbon barrels. Named after the eponymous king's alleged illegitimate daughter, Belgian artist Delphine Boël. Featuring a label by the artist reading "Truth Can Set You Free."

5:00 - 7:00 pm ♦ Wednesday Tasting - Hard Ciders!

With so many more hard craft ciders being produced these days, it’s no wonder that this fermented apple (and sometimes pear) juice is on an upswing! The Brewprints is a tetralogy (that's 4!) of separate and distinct shows by former Neo-Futurists Sean Benjamin and Steve Mosqueda, dissecting and deconstructing each of the 4 ingredients of beer: water, hops, yeast and grain.
The Brewprints runs through November 20 on Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. and on Saturdays at 4:00 p.m.
